Piratical Fun Awaits As Firelock’s Scurvy Dice Gets Released

Firelock Games has now released their rather fun game of piratical adventure, Scurvy Dice. If you want to get in some looting and raiding without the need to paint anything this might be worth a peek.
Scurvy Dice is a rather luxurious looking game which has you playing as a newly recruited captain will be outfitting your ships with sails, cannons and a crew who are on the way to the mythical Parrot island. You have to race your way across the seas and into Monkey Grove where you can try to secure your haul.
A few legendary captains from history will also be willing to join your crew if you're able to part with some of your treasure. Being a cunning captain is key here and with a game which only takes about thirty minutes to play, you might be able to get a few games in of an evening. Here is a quick playthrough from Firelock themselves...
If you're into supporting a smaller game from Firelock and keeping up with the pirate theme then you might want to snap it up!
What do you think of the game?

$30 seems a lot for dice, some tokens and a map.
that can be said about a lot of (board)games though.
You’re not simply paying for the materials, but the development cost.
Plus this is a small team, so they don’t have the advantage of volume that other (bigger) companies do.
There are plenty of other small teams. Steve Jackson Games was near bankruptcy recently. Many of their games with just as many components sell for less. Firelock also has miniatures games. Since we do not know what their costs are but we do know the retail price of similar games with a similar component count in comparison this game is expensive in relative terms. If people purchase it, good for them.
… rent, rates, taxes, marketing, transport costs, accountancy, insurance etc, etc.
As a small company producing at low volumes they won’t have the economies of scale the big players enjoy, but who would charge similar!
All those items you listed are not going to be paid for by one game. There are plenty of games on KS that sell for less and they are a one man shop. They are free to sell at whatever price they believe they need to make money. For me in relative terms it is expensive.
Fair point, these guys are an ongoing business not a one-person, one-off gamemaker.
Also they’ve invested development time and taken on the risk of paying for production up-front on this game. Their business model and customer research has led them to this price. Not good value for you and that’s fine – value is a many faceted concept much of which is in the eye of the beholder.
Looks more interesting to me and of more value than many games with loads of components on KS as I’ll probably get my money’s worth of gameplay out of it.
nice.
