Osprey Bring Colditz Board Game Back To The Tabletop In October
July 29, 2016 by brennon
Osprey Games are going to bringing the classic board game, Escape From Colditz, back to the tabletop this October for its 75th Anniversary.
So what's the fuss all about?
"An impregnable fortress. An inescapable prison. Until now. Designed by Major Pat Reid, one of only a handful of prisoners-of-war to escape Colditz Castle, and screenwriter Brian Degas, Escape From Colditz is the iconic game of careful planning and nerves of steel.
Become Allied escape officers - assemble your equipment, plot your escape routes, and coordinate your efforts to avoid the guards. Become the German security officer - maintain control through guile, ruthlessness, and careful observation despite limited numbers.
This deluxe edition of the classic game for 2 to 6 players includes both original and updated rules, new hand-painted artwork, an oversized board, 56 wooden playing pieces, 100 fully illustrated cards, a 32-page history book, and unique replicas of artefacts from the prison.
Seventy-five years ago, Major Reid braved barbed wire, searchlights, and armed guards to Escape from Colditz. Now it's your turn to do the same."
I love that there is this element of asymmetry going on here where some of you are going to be playing as the Allied officers while one of you is making sure to keep you locked up as the German Security Officer.
The game components we're seeing so far make this quite a lavish looking game. I love the look of the board which has elements of the classic but with a touch of the modern too. The Deluxe Edition is quite the prize for a fan of this game and World War II themes in general.
Will you be escaping?

Ooo nice loved the original game longtime ago.
I’ll have to get this. Peter Dennis’ artwork looks superb.
I own a copy of an original which is in perfect condition , which has the German swastika on the box. This was changed to the German Eagle due to some complaints , is a great game and one I used to play when I was a kid. We are all brought up on WW2 movies and had action men with all the uniforms ect. As kids we knew what Colditz had been during the war so the game made sense to us . We were 60s children who all had grandparents most of whom had fought in the war… Read more »
Ditto with the old copy – except mine might be a bit more bashed.
New rules? The only thing that could improve it would be some small miniatures to replace the skittle tokens..
Oh I am totally buying this! And I am going to do what it is meant for. I am going to play the living crap out of this!!!!
ROLL_CALL!!!
Brilliant news
I did enjoy playing this with friends when I was young.
Got an original box set too, very well loved and now my lad plays it and love the do or die card just as long as I don’t have the shoot to kill card. 😉
Nice! Should also still have the original somewhere, though don’t ask me where…
