Nighthaunt Clash With Lumineth In New Age Of Sigmar Warcry Set
January 19, 2024 by brennon
The skirmishes of The Mortal Realms were also a focus of LVO this week from Games Workshop. We got some fun new miniatures for Warhammer Age Of Sigmar: Warcry as well as the board game, Warhammer Underworlds.

Pyre & Flood is the new set coming to Warcry which sees the Lumineth Realm-lords going up against the Nighthaunt in a clash of the elements. On the one side of this conflict, you have the new Ydrilan Riverblades who are attuned to the elemental power of water and are seeking to cleanse Ghur of any taint.
Ydrilan Riverblades // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar: Warcry
They have been tasked with returning the River Derovar to its former glory and the use its waters to cleanse (flood) the Ravening Ruin. These warrior monks come with different weapons and fighting styles but are all as fluid and graceful as flowing water.
I'm not entirely sure that I'm sold on these miniatures. I like the lead character for the set and the other armoured individuals but the less armoured warriors in the group just feel a bit awkward to me. I get what they're trying to do here but there's something about the set that feels a bit mismatched.
In contrast, I think the Nighthaunt Pyregheists are awesome. These are more unfortunate souls who have been tasked with grim endeavours that are never-ending by Nagash.

They are asked to patrol the Gnarlwood, getting ready to turn it into a bonfire of necromantic energy that will send the souls of the dead and the dying to Nagash. So, with the Aelven contingent of the boxed set being attuned to water, you now have your opposite in the fire these fellows bring to the tabletop.
An inventive and interesting set of miniatures with some fun opportunities to try out some new painting techniques. I have always hovered on the precipice when working out if I want some Nighthaunts in my life and whilst I don't think I want an army, this set could be fun.
Since you're fighting in the tangled ruin of the Gnarlwood and the smashed remains of a Seraphon ship, it would make sense that there is a new terrain piece to throw into the mix.
Idol Of The Old Ones // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar: Warcry
Just like with the Kill Team set we looked at earlier, Games Workshop are stepping away from adding loads of terrain into these boxed sets. Instead, you get this one thematic piece, the Idol Of The Old Ones. It is studded with magical trinkets for the brave and the reckless but it will also blast the foolish with its arcane security systems. That should be fun!
All of the above miniatures and terrain will be joined by a new Warband Tome covering both warbands with their new rules, lore and more.

So, if you're a Lumineth Realm-lords fan or like yourself the floating spirits of the Nighthaunt, this might be worth scooping up!
Warhammer Underworlds' Undead Love Story
Warhammer Underworlds fans are also going to be getting themselves a new warband to have fun with and this one is a bit of a grim love story! See what you think of Zondara’s Gravebreakers.

The love of Zondara's life was afflicted by a terrible curse and turned into a monstrous beast! Ferlain now stalks with her through the Deathgorge as Zondara seeks to uncover the graces of the fallen and find the secrets that could break the curse. It's all very cute really.
That does mean that Zondara might have thrown her lot in with some of the darker aspects of magic in The Mortal Realms though. She has summoned forth a band of zombie allies to aid her in her cause, Pikk, Toyle and Cracktomb. They might not be the most powerful tools in her arsenal but they can work together with their key abilities to cause some chaos on the tabletop.
Zondara - Cards // Warhammer Underworlds
Zondara is a powerful spellcaster in her own right and she can also draw on the bestial power of Ferlain to send her enemies packing. There is also a unique mechanic between the pair where Tragedy can be used to synergise their abilities and get the most out of them. A couple that exhumes together, stays together.

Are the Riverbaldes the new version of Wardancers?
By Sigmar, Gork, and Nagash, I hope not.
Those Riverblades are the LAMEST models I have ever seen. Five at most are equipped with a cuirass, and they look like they could fall off. They look less like a war party and more like foppish dandies chasing foxes.
Normally you have to paint a model entirely in gold to hurt my eyes the way the Riverblades do…
