A New Look At Warhammer Quest: Cursed City’s Miniatures!
February 20, 2021 by brennon
Today was another chance to dive into the world of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar with Games Workshop. Their latest preview unveiled a lot of new miniatures and we start with a peek at all of the heroes and villains you get in Warhammer Quest: Cursed City.
Warhammer Quest: Cursed City Full Reveal
We will start with the heroes that you'll be able to play as in the game. There are eight of them included in the box for Warhammer Quest: Cursed City although a ninth can be sourced from the upcoming book based on Cursed City by C.L. Werner. It's good to see the author of Brunner The Bounty Hunter and Mathias Thulmann back with his grimdark tales.
Emelda Braskov // Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
Glaurio Ven Alten III // Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
Jelsen Darrock // Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
Dagni Holdenstock // Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
Qulathis The Exile // Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
Octren Glimscry // Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
Cleona Zetiengale // Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
Brutogg Corpse Eater // Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
This is an excellent selection of different heroes who are going to be wandering the streets of Ulfkarn looking to hunt down the various undead fiends who have made the Cursed City their home. I like that we're getting a snapshot of the various factions within the Grand Alliance or Order who have formed uneasy pacts in order to take on the forces of Nagash.
The Villains Of Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
The heroes that you see here are going to be coming up against all manner of interesting villains. There are plenty of cruel and fiendish foes that you'll find standing in your way!
Radukar The Wolf // Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
Torgillius The Chamberlain // Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
Watch Captain Halgrim // Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
Gorslav The Gravekeeper // Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
Vargskyr // Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
...and beyond the main foes that you see here, there will also be plenty of rank and file enemies which have been risen from their graves in order to watch over the shadowy streets of the Cursed City.
Deadwalker Zombies // Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
Deadwalker Zombies // Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
The Ulfenwatch // Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
The Ulfenwatch // Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
Vyrkos Blood Born // Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
Kosargi Nightguard // Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
Bat Swarms // Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
Corpse Rats // Warhammer Quest: Cursed City
There is no release date for the game as it stands but I know that I am going to be picking it up when it launches. I have been won over by the look of the game for sure and it seems like they have been building on the mechanics they ran with for Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress.
As well as containing all of the rules for the game of Cursed City you'll also find rules for using these creatures, constructs, monsters and more in your games of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar too.
Are you going to be snapping up this release at launch?

I know GW do some excellent sculpts, but when I watched the live stream this afternoon I was impressed.
The feral vamps are scenic bases with monsters added.
And the zombies with tombstones on the backs look great.
Sadly my painting skills are not up to scratch, but I’ll give it a go when it arrives.
Looks like time of day may be a factor as there is clock face. Unless it’s just a turn counter, in which case it’s less interesting.
Oops. Forgot. The heroes look cool too.
I’m sure you’ll do them justice with your paintjob, mate! I believe in you!
Thanks for the belief, but I can at best do tabletop quality. My work looks best at arms length.
I really like all of this and it has some really nice Old World vibes about it.
I wonder what @lloyd thinks about those skeletons. They have a really nice uniform look about them and have the appearance that they were once a real army. Personally they’re exactly what I would want to see in a skeleton army if I were going to build a skeleton army – like they have all be resurrected wearing whatever they wore when they died, rather than being re-equipped with some whacky, bat laden outfit
If you’re looking for skeletons in uniforms…
Warmachine has Alexia Ciannor and the Risen warband which has 20 skeletons wearing the uniforms of other factions that were raised… plus Alexia and a champion undead.
Don’t forget the brand-new Legion of Lost Souls!
Their most successful stuff is all basically Warhammer Fantasy stuff. Don’t think I haven’t noticed GW!
All of their Age of Sigmar stuff, with the possible exception of the Stormcast, is based on the old world. The only thing that GW got rid of WAS the old world. Oh, and Bretonians. Other than that they basically kept pretty much all the thematic choices for their Age of Sigmar factions.
Not missing the Bretonnians, as Highland Miniatures on Patreon makes them better than GW ever did, and of course for a fraction of the price if you own a 3D printer.
I think there sweet, I wouldn’t say not to have some 🙂 @onlyonepinman
I like how this entire box is basically a shadow reveal for the Soulblight army, I think the Skeletons look good tbh I think in AoS it makes more sense they’re all uniformly armed and armoured as though the Necromancer has almost “recruited” their army instead of just raising up a load of old bones
Impressive models and some of the best painted ones GW has put out recently no question. This is going to make a lot of people very happy over the next two years. Realised pretty quickly that this wasn’t going to be for me though, which is fine.
I suspect that the heroes may be released separately at a later date. I’m going to wait for something like that, myself, so I can get the minis without the game that I’m not too bothered about.
They didn’t release (or haven’t done so yet) the Black Fortress character models more widely, so I unfortunately wouldn’t count on it.
Considering that Blackstone Fortress itself is just about still available I would think it would be late 21 early 22 before they would do this, regardless of production delays by the pandemic etc.. I can’t imagine that GW would write off the moulds for those minis so quickly.
I am betting on Easter Weekend. BSF is still available but I suspect they’re just selling off existing stock, they won’t be producing any more copies
If they release the Blackstone Fortress minis then you can be sure that they will with this in due course.
Some of the BSF stuff got released separately, I think the Chaos Space Marine Lord and Cultists of the Abyss are available. I assume those were chosen as they’re easily usable in most Chaos armies. The rest of the stuff is very specific and they might end up going the way of the stuff in the Rogue Trader set. I’m still hoping the Traitor Guard in BSF will lead to a full Lost and Damned release.
Yes you are right the Chaos Lord is a good example. I was thinking about the main characters yesterday so completely forgot about him. You can roughly tell how things might be released from how the sprues are laid out. The cultists I would guess were always thought of as something that non-BSF players would pick up.
Ooh nice I’m lovein the skeleton knight’s especially.
Absolutely amazing models, bravo GW for this.
But note literally all of this is Warhammer Fantasy, not Age of Sigmar. Go figure GW. Will you learn?
They are bringing back the Old World so yes, looks like they have
I think this is still Age of Sigmar. The dwarf hero – from his boots, to his weapon to his backpack is definitely a Kharadron Overlord
This is for Age of Sigmar (obv) but everything apart from the steampunk Kharadron Overlord Dwarf (who has been toned down) is straight from Warhammer Fantasy, the zombies look like they’ve been drawn directly from the older Fantasy art from decades ago, the entire range here is pure Warhammer Fantasy they’ve just slapped “Age of Sigmar” onto it because they can’t really escape that now. One could list but it’s literally everything. The great thing is you can use existing models from your collection if you can’t afford the box, to play this – which I think a lot of… Read more »
Ooooooh, so many shinies!! Seriously, GW outdid themself with this box! The zombies are a great update on the old kit, and the tombstones spiked through their chests give them a lot of character! The vampires also look good and horrifying, the werewolf warlord is very cool, and with the exception of the elves, all the heroes look great! There’s something really nice about seeing a bunch of “regular” warriors that can take on zombies, Chaos warriors, or whatever with just a gun, sword, and guts; I’m torn between the witch hunter, the pirate, and the Kharadron (come at me,… Read more »
It’s the Elf for me, mate, that mini is just everything I’d want from a ‘Wood Elf’ archer mini. For second place, though, I’m in the same boat between the Witch Hunter and the Dwarf.
I love the fact that Radukar is not just a vampire, he’s an OGRE vampire….
This box looks stunning from end to end.
Looking really good as we knew they would. Just need to see a price, with this many models I am very wary that it might price me out of it.
Blackstone Fortress was pretty packed with stuff and that released at €125 from GW. I’d expect this to be around the same shout, and you’ll definitely pick it up cheaper from other retailers.
A tad disappointed. After the reveal of the first two minis my expectations were the roof though, as GW pretty much came out with the two strongest minis first. The main villian is a letdown.
Really undecided whether to go with this or a bunch of HeresyLabs stuff.
Going great guns until we hit the “Deadwalker Zombies” 🙁
Why on why GW did you do such a ridiculous sculpt (not withstanding that the plastic zombies from GW are THE oldest range of plastics and most seriously in need of redoing to bring them up to date).
Ah GW, able to bring fantastic minis to the table, and yet still mange to find a way to mess thigs up 🙁
They’re taking excellent minis then piling stuff on them like toddlers decorating a Christmas tree. There are some amazing sculpts in this game and a lot they should’ve quit a few hours earlier and gone down the pub.
Oh gawds, maybe that’s why!
I wonder if there is some particular lore based reason, as they all seem pinned to their place of burial. But I agree that these are the models I like the least from the set.
It’s from an old medieval tradition connected to the mythology of vampires; corpses used to be buried staked to their coffins to keep them from rising from the dead to attack the living.
Thank you – something about the poses itched at a memory that I couldn’t pin down, and that’s exactly it.
I think perhaps the coffin lids I could live with, but the entire Headstone, Tree Stumps and various wildlife just seems overly fussy.
Just can’t get with the sculpts, and just wish they had gone with a more traditional (and useful) sculpt of walking dead as walking dead (and not as some sort of “U-Haul” or Snail like Zombie) 🙁
If the Old World range looks like this, I’m f**ked.
WOW! WOW! WOW!
Really love what i’m seeing! The only i’m not a big fan off, are the zombies but, at the very least, they’re not in a classic movie pose…
Rules for Age of Sigmar too, i’m sold!
No ghosts I see or “nighthaunts”… but i hope this is a stepping off point into expanding the game system with extra expansions in time. But as a board game, its focus is on one city… so no travelling to other places and buying items.. Need to see a play though soon….. fingers crossed i may buy it, or i get the forbidden fortress from flying frog games for the setting….
I’ve not played Forbidden Fortress, but do own the first two Shadows of Brimstone boxes and it’s an ok game, but has a few negative points… it’s a total dice fest, needs a large playing area as the board is randomly generated and it takes a long time to play a scenario. I own a could of other Flying Frog Games… A Touch of Evil and Fortune & Glory, both of which I enjoy playing. Fortune & Glory is very Indiana Jones and my favourite. Flying Frog are appalling at getting stuff done though. The Touch of Evil 10 year… Read more »
Does anyone remember Insuisitor Greyfax from 40k?
I bet Jelsen Darrock does.
He’s one right arm away from practically copying her entire pose altogether. He’s got the legs, left arm, torso twist, angle of the head etc
Those zombies make me want to make a graveyard terrain piece where the gravestones on their backs are at ground level, then lift a lever and raise all the zombies out of it…whack-a-mole style!
Might not make any friends with this comment but I would genuinely love to see this entire box set made into a Vermintide style video game, no dramatic changes, just literally port it over into an FP Co-op game, give them some sort of skill unlock system like the talents in VT series, think it would be a fantastic game to play on PC…. and I suppose consoles too. Oh BTW will still be buying this as a first foray back into tabletop gaming so I can play with my godson once this lockdown crap is over and done with,… Read more »
Both good choices for getting back into tabletop. This will no doubt have expansions but the core game is packed with enough stuff to keep you entertained so you have a “complete” experience straight away. And Underworlds is brilliant, really quick to get painted and the rules are easy to grasp.
Very impressed overall. Emelda gives me hope for some knights in the future ??
My fave is Gorslav and the Kosargi Nightguards are pretty cool too. T
Vargskyr, Vyrkos and the Bat Swarms would fit right into any self-respecting Vampire Counts army (I refuse to use the name Flesheater Courts).
