Explore The Nethermaze In Warhammer Underworlds Soon
April 18, 2022 by brennon
Games Workshop is delving deeper into Warhammer Underworlds and exploring the realm of Ulgu. The new focus of your skirmishes is the Nethermaze where the Aelves are facing off against a band of skittering Skaven.

This set is another way for you to dive into playing Warhammer Underworlds. You get two new plastic warbands alongside the rules, cards, tokens and dice that you'd need to start playing the game. The new miniatures offer up something similar yet different which is always nice. We start with the Shadeborn.
Shadeborn // Warhammer Underworlds
The Shadeborn are a band of Khainite Shadowstalkers that have been sent by Morathi deep into Ulgu to find hidden secrets. Their leader is Shroud Queen Slythael who is similar in look and feel to the character that you might remember from Warhammer Quest: The Silver Tower. The warband also features Aelf warriors that are familiar to those who have dived into Warcry in the past too.
Set against the Shadeborn are the murderous assassins of Clan Eshin. Slynk Skittershank leads Skittershank’s Clawpack and offers up a great option for those who love the backstabbing warriors of the Skaven.
Skittershank's Clawpack // Warhammer Underworlds
What's quite nice about this set is that it offers up deadly assassins who are coming up against equally deadly assassins. This focuses on deft and agile fighting between skilled individuals. I like all of the poses for both warbands and I reckon that a lot of folks would have fun painting these up.
As is the way with Warhammer Underworlds, these warbands give you the chance to dive in and paint up a faction without having to work your way through ranks and ranks and models. I should also add that there's nothing overtly Age Of Sigmar about the Skaven so if you wanted to use them for old fashioned Mordheim - you could!
New rules within Nethermaze focus on two keywords, Map and Domain. One of these offers up the chance to do a bit of gambling whilst another allows you to change the sunken maze and use it to your advantage. So, another tactic that could lead you towards victory.
New & Returning Warbands
As well as the new set, Nethermaze, you will also be able to pick up the warbands from the previous Warhammer Underworlds box separately.
Xandire's Truthseekers // Warhammer Underworlds
Da Kunnin' Krew // Warhammer Underworlds
The forces of Xandire's Truthseekers and Da Kunnin' Krew are now available for those that want to get their hands on them alongside the new boxed game. It features a classic match-up between the Stormcast Eternals and the Orruks but with a twist when it comes to the sneaky Kruelboyz.
If you would prefer to dive into Warhammer Underworlds with your gaggle of twisted undead then you can choose The Exiled Dead.
The Exiled Dead // Warhammer Underworlds
This set gives you mega Frankenstein's Monster vibes. You have a number of shambling creations alongside their cunning and twisted mentor. A Necromancer who was too much even for his own kind. That should ring the warning bells.
All of these options are going to be available for pre-order this weekend. So, there is a big focus on Warhammer Underworlds this time around!
Are you tempted to give this game a go?

I do like the figures especially the skaven.
Those new miniatures look really good.
It feels like the previous Underworlds game was released a few months ago …
isn’t this awfully quick ?
The teams do look lovely. Great stuff for heroes/characters in any of those fantasy skirmish games like Frostgraves and 8 leagues from Borderlands.
You are right as it is a bit confusing, as it is still season 5, and these are warbands 5 and 6 (the other warband not accounted for here is a buccaneer ogre one).
The first boxed starter of season 5 was Harrowdeep (with storm cast and orcs), and not sure if all those new rules/ cards are also in this box set as well or how they are connected.
