Necrons & Mini-Blood Bowl; New GW Games On The Horizon
February 19, 2018 by brennon
Two new Games Workshop board games are in the works and were previewed at the NY Toy Fair 2018 this past weekend. The first of which is Space Marine Adventures: Labyrinth Of The Necrons.
This game pits five different Space Marines (all presented in different coloured plastic miniatures) against a Necron foe deep within the labyrinth of a Necron Lord. It looks like it's going to fall into the category of 'entry-level game' but that doesn't mean that it's not going to be worth checking out.
We shall have to wait to find out more about this game but from the looks of it, it should be a nice jaunt into the world of Warhammer 40,000 and maybe the starting point for someone to get into the hobby.
Blitz Bowl
The second game is a cut-down experience for those who want to get in a quick bit of Fantasy Football. Here we have Blitz Bowl.
This game is meant to be for new coaches, younger players, and those that want to get in a really quick game of Blood Bowl during a lunch break perhaps. It comes with all new components including a significantly smaller pitch and of course some pre-coloured plastic miniatures too.

When will we see the old Chainsaw Warrior make a return?
Those look like those could be fun.
I really don’t see the point of Blitz Bowl. The rules are pretty simple as it is.
I dunno if I’d call them simple!
They’re bringing back the little games. I remember back in the day when I first saw those old games stocked in a book store (I remember one called “Ultramarines” that used Space Hulk tiles and mowhawk scouts).
One thing I’m really wondering- is that Blood Bowl 7s, or did they come up with a different way to parse down Blood Bowl?
Nice to see GW coming back to being a games company.
FFG: “We have a miniature game coming out!”
GW: “Oh yea, well, board games beotch!”
Heh, sorry, couldn’t resist.
Sold on both of these… I like my boardgames to be quick, and Shadespire has been a great first foray.
5 a-side blood bowl, im sold….
Less sold on the space marine one, mainly because i dont have to spend holidays in a caravan anymore, looks like a good rainy day caravan game…
It’s not clear whether the Space Marine game actually contains any Necrons or if they are represented by tokens instead…
Apparently they are just tokens used in the game and the models are just there to show the potential enemies you could build yourself. You still get actual space marines however.
Kid “Daddy, can we buy the Necrons so we don’t have to use the tokens?”
Daddy “Yes, I can now start a Necron army”.
Mummy “I want a divorce”.
