Naughty Dog & Themeborne Reveal The Last Of Us: Escape The Dark
November 1, 2022 by brennon
Naughty Dog has teamed up with one of our favourite game publishers, Themeborne, to produce a tabletop game based in the world of The Last Of Us. The Last Of Us: Escape The Dark is due to come to Kickstarter on 8th November!

The Last Of Us: Escape The Dark will feature a uniquely Themeborne take on the hit video game series. Escape The Dark Castle and Sector are both phenomenal games that offer up easy-to-learn mechanics and twisting and turning stories where you might not make it to the end! Those mechanics seem apt for making an adaptation of the post-apocalyptic world of The Last Of Us.
Featuring more of that beautiful black-and-white art that Themeborne is known for, you'll take on the role of Joel and Ellie as they undertake their journey across a broken America.

From what we've seen so far, we have some noticeably similar gameplay elements. You've got a set of handy weapons and items plus those big chunky dice that just never seem to roll what you want! You've also still got Chapter Cards in play but they are set up in a different way, spread out over a game board rather than being part of a deck.
We know that the game is going to be a one-to-five-player experience where you'll get to play as Joel, Ellie, Tess, Bill, Tommy and Marlene and explore the now open-world map whilst trying to keep the group alive.
The choices of the classic "Escape The Dark..." games remain and you'll need to take on different threats like Hunters and the Infected. Your survivors will also start with what's called a Hang Up which you'll overcome through different scenarios. You will also be able to choose between stealth and a bit of old-fashioned combat when it comes to what you face on the cards.
It will be fascinating to see what else they have done when it comes to tweaking and updating those "Escape The Dark..." mechanics to work with the world of The Last Of Us. As a fan of the video game, this seems like it could be a lot of fun to dive into.
Are you going to be keeping an eye out for the Kickstarter?
