Mythic Play Through Solomon Kane With Latest Rule Tweaks!
July 3, 2018 by brennon
Join Az, Babis and Dale as they sit down to play through more of Solomon Kane from Mythic Games. The Kickstarter has just over two days left on its campaign at the time of writing and this could be your final chance to get stuck in...
In this video, they are using the latest version of the rules when it comes to the Discovery Cards, how NPC interactions work and also the evolving story mechanics which make Solomon Kane feel like the unique game it is.
They will be taking on the story, The Blue Flame Of Vengeance...
This story tells the tale of how Solomon Kane gets embroiled in a story that involves pirates, a captured lady in distress and a race to save her from the clutches of the evil Sir George Banway.
It really shows off just how wide-ranging the stories for Solomon Kane are, and how in-depth you can dive into his world with each of the stories taking a while to play out in their entirety. It means you can play through sections of it in various sessions and make Solomon Kane part of your 'hobby' as it were.
Make sure to give the video above a watch and let us know if the updated mechanics and rules here have swayed you towards snagging a copy of the game.

11-12 hours for one adventure. Rules need more than tweaking, they need total rewrite to speed up gameplay.
Well…no…because you play it in chunks like the above image says. You don’t play it all in one sitting.
Remember this is a storytelling narrative driven game…
It’s like going through a full on story…
I can watch the extended Lord of the Rings in the time it takes to play through one story…
I know it’s narrative, but I can only get 2hrs a week normally for gaming with friends, even if it has ‘save points’ at 2 hr intervals it would take 6-8 weeks to play one story.
They waste such a lot of time allocating dice and discussing options…
With an RPG I can cover a lot more story in that same time period and it’s a lot more interesting.
Even the 3 hour chunks are niche game. Most games go 1 – 2 hours tops. This is the kind of game you end up owning and never playing unless you are a hardcore gamer.
Personally I am not at all interested in this kind of game as I know it will never get to the table.
This whole KS looks like it is driven my selling nice looking miniatures rather than a serious board game.
Totally over produced with a lack of any direction in the game design.
Pretty much nailed it in your description.
For similar reasons I dropped out of their Joan of Arc game. That and it’s hard to take a game seriously when the french are the heroes 🙂
I dropped JoA because the game seemed half baked. Each scenario had fundamentally different rules for the units. This smelled to me like a game with bad rules using a sticking plaster to fix balance problems. Nice miniatures, but I am looking for good games not just nice plastic bits.
I think their original intention might have been to have the storytelling game with the miniatures being there to help enhance the story for those who like having a bit of plastic to paint/play around with. Bear in mind that once you get to know the game and play it with friends you’re going to be a lot quicker – but this game, as has been said, isn’t going to be for everyone. Anyway – I just think that some people are missing the point and/or got the wrong end of the stick about what Mythic were trying to do… Read more »
All campaign long it’s been nothing but board gamers whinging, “Is there really enough gameplay?!?! Will this game actually be worth my investment??? Are there hundreds of hours of playtime in this???”
And then you all see it here and are like, “What, that’s way too much gameplay! Erase it all and start over!”
One really couldn’t blame them for just not listening to feedback.
2-3 hours may be a lot of game-play per session, but it would have to be compelling to hold my interest that long. If the game drags on then nice plastic toys won’t fix that.
Not every game is for everyone. I like the idea of this game and I like the story telling aspect. It is different than other games and isn’t just a bunch of rolling dice.
I bought ‘This War of Mine’ for it’s story and because it looked like a great solo game with multiplayer tagged on… sadly not had the time to get it to the table.
I miss the days of my youth when I had lots of spare time and in large chunks… oh for the days of 12+ hours RPG session… going home as the sun rises with a belly full of beer and junk food…
nice, is Az on more now than when he worked their. ? not complaining or anything.
This looks like it’ll be a great solo game, especially because you’ll be able to chomp through it at your own mental pace, which should be significantly faster than what’s shown in the video. And it’s filled with story, I was surprised at how narrative the Discovery cards all were, like little snippets of a choose your own adventure book.
I tried watching this 2nd demo, but 30+ minutes in and they only said hello to a boy. I may have a story but all that i give you dice is boring me to turn it off…..
Agreed.I know everyones hobby is different, but, for me,RPG’s are a much better way of storytelling.
