Mythic Meet Dreng The Berserker From Hel: The Last Saga
April 23, 2020 by brennon
Mythic Games has been showing off another character from their upcoming Kickstarter game, Hel: The Last Saga. Here we have the art, render and final painted model for Dreng The Berserker who joins the crew on their quest.
Dreng, as you can see above, has not exactly had every fight his own way. Despite losing a hand and being covered in scars he has managed to battle on and with Tyr in his soul, he is ready to slay once more on the battlefield. He very much reminds me of Whirrun Of Bligh from The First Law world, a man with a massive sword, ready to take on everyone and anything that stands in his way.
The miniature is looking rather cool once again and has also been painted up by Sebastien Lavigne below. I really like the slightly off-the-wall take that Mythic have been using for these characters. They are noticeably Viking but with a few tweaks here and there to match their dark world.
The team at Mythic Games are continuing to preview more from the game over on their Facebook Group. You can actually vote on what character you want to see next and of course, we'll be taking any of the previews and dropping them into the news here!
What do you make of this new preview from Mythic for Hel: The Last Saga?

Gonna struggle with that sword single handed. Nice rope papoose for grampa woody.
Well… someone… Give him a hand….
thank you, thank you, I’m here all week…
Well we do know he didn’t cut off his own hand with that blunt sword.
A gold one? Lol ?
Any new berserker is a good thing, this is looking nice ?
So this is a game about people who wear bandages and like a bare torso in the freezing?
Wouldn’t be fantastical Vikings without bare chests, tattoos and fur – I don’t think they’re going for anything particularly realistic in their designs since they’re venturing through Hel heh
Since you don’t plan to give Mythic anything on “principal”, why do you care what kind of game it is at all.
And yes, I would say that by the looks of it, in this particular universe, human Vikings have developed a particular resistance to cold and extreme weather. As a fantasy game, on the scale of fantastical things its not that hard to believe at all.
He’s fabulous looking figure to play as.
Dreng, of course, being Old Norse for a fight, a battle, killing, a warrior, of a group of young warriors going off looking for a fight (not quite raiding ‘though).
He’s obviously reminiscent of Tyr with the maimed hand there. Also Lugh of the Golden Arm from Celtic mythology but he’s not a celt.
Pity about the giant manga plank sword from hell ruining the whole look ‘though. Especially as he’s probably going to struggle to use his maimed hand to help wield it. That weapon is wrong in so many ways. At least the pommel is acceptable (if somewhat oversized).
The pixie boots look odd as well.
Obviously not a historical game. I would say more along the lines of historically adjacent deep/high fantasy. For me, I am fine with overly large weaponry. Although I am strongly against overly large helmets that would obviously break your neck and prevent you swinging your weapon properly. So, to each their own I guess… Lol. I want to know his story. How did he lose his hand? Why use such a massive sword? How does he use such a sword, let alone using it only with one hand? That for me would be the deal breaker, if there wasn’t a… Read more »
