Monolith Preview The Mighty Thor For Mythic Battles: Ragnarok
January 25, 2021 by brennon
Monolith Edition's Mythic Battles: Ragnarok is just around the corner and we've now got a look at our first god miniature. Here is their take on Thor who is going to be striding across the battlefield, crushing his foes beneath the weight of Mjolnir.
Thor // Mythic Battles: Ragnarok
Thor is one of the massive miniatures that you'll get with Mythic Battles: Ragnarok, towering over the mortals and creatures in the game. As well as just looking impressive, this gives you a sense of just how dangerous and powerful each of the gods is.
As you might imagine, Thor is one of the more aggressive gods in Ragnarok and he is going to be a good choice for those that want to burst out of the gates and start laying waste to their opponents with little thought.

In-game, he can throw Mjolnir and reach any enemy wherever they are on the board to unleash a devastating area-effect attack. He can also keep fighting longer than others thanks to his goats, Tanngrisnir & Tanngnjostr. They can be devoured (don't worry, they come back the next day!) so that he can heal his wounds and continue battling against his foes.
Thor Art & Miniature // Mythic Battles: Ragnarok
This miniature is seriously awesome looking and all credit to Arnaud Boudoiron for managing to get the look and feel of Thor just right. I like that they've made sure the handle of Mjolnir is shorter, as it is in the stories, and it's nice to see that Pascal Quidault gave him flaming red hair instead of the blond dye job from the Marvel comics!
Mythic Battles: Pantheon was one of those games that really hit a good note with us and I would hope that Mythic Battles: Ragnarok will follow up on that and deliver a nice opportunity to give in to another era of myth and legend. Maybe I'll actually get around to painting my copy of Pantheon sometime soon...
What do you make of the new Thor miniature?

That’s a cracking miniature ?
That is a fabulous looking figure.
That is one great looking miniature.
Nice mini, but the hammer handle looks awkwardly short.
Based on the descriptions of Mjolnir in Skaldskaparmal, it’s an accurate representation:
“Then he gave Thor the hammer and said he would be able to strike as heavily as he liked, whatever the target, and the hammer would not fail, and if he threw it at something, it would never miss, and never fly so far that it would not find its way back to his hand, and if he liked, it was so small that it could be kept inside his shirt. But there was this defect in that the end of the hammer was rather short.”
Good to see he is a red head, like he is supposed to be
