Modiphius Bringing Siege Of The Citadel Board Game Back!
October 11, 2015 by brennon
Modiphius have joined forces with a dream team of designers, artists and sculptors to bring the classic board game Siege Of The Citadel back to the tabletop...
"Modiphius & Cabinet Entertainment have assembled an all-star team of designers to work on the re-boot including Richard Borg, Eric Lang and Kevin Wilson, along with cover artist Adrian Smith, and a sculpting team of Prodos Games and Paolo Parente."
More on the board game itself...
"Siege of the Citadel was a major release by Pressman Toys in the 90's and is set in the Mutant Chronicles universe, where players control one of five corporations: Imperial, Cybertronic, Mishima, Capitol, or Bauhaus. Each player begins with two of their own unique Doomtroopers who both benefit from their Corporation's special ability.
The players must prevent the Dark Legion and one of its vile leaders, the vile Nepharite, Alakhai, from conquering the solar system. Each successful mission brings news monstrous foes and terrifying events as the heroes explore the modular Citadel whilst events can help or hinder their missions.
Promotion give credits to access more powerful weaponry and abilities whilst secret missions can cause chaos for the heroes!"
New campaigns and more from the existing Mutant Chronicles universe will push the game forward into the new age. The game is scheduled to appear at Essen next year in 2016 and then be released in October too.
Do you remember the original?

This is awesome! The game that got myself into the hobby many years ago. I managed to get hold of a Swedish version, “Kampen om Citadellet” this summer actually. One of the best, if not the best, scifi dungeon crawler. Modiphius has nothing to loose here, such winning streek! 😀
And if they work with Prodos? Can you imagine that? 😀
The game was cute back then, I hope Modiphius will continue the legacy 🙂
Now this is an amazing news! Where do we pre order that game? Shall we be so bold in hoping for GW to do the same soon?
My best friend and I played that game to death when we were kids.
I loved the old game, but I really hope they go with a different company for casting the figs. The warzone i’ve gotten from prodos was so badly cast I gave up and just chunked it in the trash.
Never heard of this before, and was never in to Mutant Chronicles, but this does pique my interest. Is it a ‘Space Crusade’ type of semi-collaborative game?
The game is for 2-5 players and definitely works best with at least 3 playing in the campaign format, a series of missions. Each player has a team of 2 Doomtroopers (the heroes) who are trying to complete missions against the Dark Legion (which owns the Citadel). Each player will control the Dark Legion for one mission while his team of Doomtroopers sits out. The Doomtrooper players try to complete the mission and beat the Dark Legion player, while also subtly trying to screw over the other Doomtrooper players to get the most rewards (credits). But they have to be… Read more »
Ok, quick answer- this is the Mutant Chronicles answer to Space Crusade. It is very similar to SC, and it features a few notable improvements, but the rules are clearly ‘inspired’ by Space Crusade.
This will clearly be a new edition of the game with new rules- I wonder what they will do with it.
Thanks @meanbone and @odinsgrandson – I’ll keep an eye out for more info in future.
Let’s just hope no large dependencies on Prodos, during a Kickstarter fulfilment eh!
Great but i think because Prodos is doing the Warzone Minatures the will be also in the boat here. I do like their miniatures, i have some Warzone miniatures (Brotherhood, btw. why are they not involved in the original game?) and the retail version of AvP and as i said i have no issues with the minaitures and the games are fun.
But sadly i know about their Kickstater problems so i hope that if they are involved here that the’re doing better this time.
Too many cooks spoil the broth ?
Not sure but Paolo Parente and Prodos Games in one boat make me rather suspicious.
I met some unhappy backers at Essen Spiel that complained that Prodos were selling lots of new strecht goal Minis for Alien vs Predator at their booth, again before catering to their backers. There are still people that didnt get their AvP games, no wonder Prodos didn’t advertise this anywhere.
Very nice, hope they make the board modular this time though
Fun fact – this actually marks Paolo’s “return” to this setting since he actually produced a fair amount of art that was used in the original RPG, Warzone and Doomtrooper CCG.
This was the game I said FFG should remake == https://boardgamegeek.com/article/4344108#4344108 — when instead they made their 54mm prepainted Mutant Chronicles figures. I ain’t gonna say I told ya so, but, well…
That game is one of the strangest things to come out of both ffg and MC ..
If it goes to kickstarter I’ll give it a miss until it hits retail. The game itself looks interesting though I’d never heard of it before.
A year to wait! argh! This is a old favorite! I also enjoyed Blood Berets and Fury of the Clansmen.
Thanks guys we’ll (Modiphius) be leading the team and overseeing production, kickstarter and fulfilment. The bulk of the kickstarter will be plastics that will be produced in China, Prodos will be providing sculpts as will Paolo’s team and we’ll be co-ordinating some very cool integration with Warzone via Prodos which I can tell you about later… 🙂
Looking forward to it! Can you tell us if there will be 3D scenery? Like the old cardboard arches and plastic stairs … only, you know, even cooler than this: https://boardgamegeek.com/image/329726/mutant-chronicles-siege-citadel?size=large
Oh, an old favorite of mine is coming back. Woohoo.
