The Awful Orphanage Live On Kickstarter Now!
March 22, 2018 by brennon
Workhouse Games are now live on Kickstarter with their awesome board game project, The Awful Orphanage. We've been following the development of this game over the last few weeks and it's great to see it finally live!
Check Out The Campaign
The game follows you playing a set of poor Orphans who are trying to escape the machinations the evil Ms Prendergast. She is delving into all sorts of strange rituals and more and the only way to stop her is by getting rid of her for good! However, only one of you can achieve this and so you'll be backstabbing and hampering your friends to be the one who manages to put an end to her schemes.
You can find out more about the game in an interview we did with the creators below...
Once you've checked that out you can see a neat rundown of how to play the game as presented on their Kickstarter here too.
Each of the different Orphans as their own powers and abilities which makes for an alternative experience each time you play where you explore different tactical options. Plus, the incredibly customisable board layout and a deck of cards offer up plenty of replay value each time you sit down to the tabletop.
The folks at Workhouse Games also recently upgraded the sculpts that you get in the game box to the ones you see above. They are a lot more animated than their predecessors and really bring the artwork to life. Here are just two of my favourites in full for you to check out...
...and so you can see the range that will be presented to you in the main box, the whole cast!
I would imagine quite of few people who pick this up will take the chance to paint up these little rascals!
The Pledge Levels
There are various Pledge Levels which are available to you as a Backer of this campaign as displayed here...
Whichever level you pledge for, you will get yourself a game packed with all manner of goodies. Here's a breakdown of what comes in the core box, giving you plenty of fun to be had on the tabletop.
As mentioned above, the highly detailed tiles are one of the big winners as part of this project. I love all the little narrative hints they give to players about what is going on deeper within The Awful Orphanage and it all helps with the world building around the tabletop.
Of course, this isn't everything that awaits you when this campaign launches. As well as everything you see here there are plenty of Stretch Goals planned, adding new Orphans and more to the mix.
Will you be backing this campaign?
