We've seen a lot of the miniatures already but the focus now shifts towards the gameplay aspects that you'll delve into with Batman: Escape From Arkham Asylum.

The Escape Plan

At the core of the game is The Escape Plan. These act like scenarios in other games and whilst the game will come with a selection of options they are fully customisable and should allow for different experiences each time you sit down to play.

You'll also find specific conditions, special effects and surprises listed on these Escape Plans that you'll encounter during gameplay.

Building Arkham Asylum

Games of Escape From Arkham Asylum take place on a modular board that is composed of different tiles. There are both rectangles and hexagons. Rectangles represent corridors that you run through and hexagons represent rooms. Due to the array of tiles in the game box, you can build all sorts of mazes for your villains to explore.

Rooms can be alarmed which can cause problems for players and there are also Event Cards that can be shuffled together before a game. These throw even more unexpected situations at the players and add to the randomness that they'll encounter during play.

Crafting Your Way Out!

Another element of the game that you'll have to get your head around is Crafting. To win the game you need to collect together different objects in order to escape.

Some of these can be found easily but others might be related to one of the bosses that you'll encounter during gameplay. You will also need to work together (semi-coop remember!) to craft some of the more tricky items.

Escape From Arkham Asylum Phase Breakdown

Throughout the game, you'll be using your super villains' various special abilities and meet objectives in order to collect an array of Infamy Points. You might escape but the person who manages to get the most is the winner! Game turns are also broken down as such...

Player Phase

During the player phase, the characters have six actions that can be used to move, dive into combat and resolve (hacking, searching and crafting for example). You will also have to be careful as the Alert Level can increase due to your actions which could bring Batman after you! Talking of the Dark Knight, he will always go after the Super Villain who is doing the best!

At the end of the player phase, you might then end up flipping over an Event Card that was received during the game. These will normally throw another spanner into the works of your games!

Adversary Phase

In the adversary phase, things get tweaked and changed up even more. The game doesn't play as your foes, YOU DO. The players will take on the role of the guards and other characters within Arkham looking to lock them up. Will you attack your other players to ensure your victory OR will you send them off on a wild goose chase so that everyone benefits? How nice are you feeling?

End Phase

In the end phase, the round and finished and players get ready for a new round. There are limited turns in a game of Batman: Escape From Arkham Asylum and Batman is always waiting in the wings to hunt you do. SO, make sure to get your plans in place!
