A Knight, Hunter & Sith Walk Into A Bar – New Ally Packs For Imperial Assault
May 12, 2016 by brennon
Three new Ally Packs are on the way for Star Wars: Imperial Assault by Fantasy Flight and it sounds like the start of a bad Sci-Fi joke. Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Grand Inquisitor and Greedo are going to be making themselves known on the tabletop...
We'll kick things off with a look at a beloved character from Star Wars in Obi-Wan Kenobi. I was so pleased when I realised he chose the name 'Ben Kenobi'!
The version of Kenobi comes with an ancient lightsabre which is a deadly weapon in its own right. He also comes with a side mission for your campaign where you have to distract and escape an Imperial patrol.
Next up we have The Grand Inquisitor from the Star Wars: Rebels TV show.
This chap is out to destroy the Rebellion by whatever means necessary and comes with a campaign mission plus some interesting skirmish missions too. I really like this miniature with a double bladed lightsabre. A neat miniature channelling the dark side in his other hand.
Last but not least we have someone without the skill to wield a sabre. Instead we have Greedo who is a dab hand with a gun although not quick enough!
He is a cheaper option for the Empire to drop into their games as a Bounty Hunter and while he won't make a massive impact he can deal out some good damage before he eventually bites the dust. I think it would be fun to do some kind of running battle where you're trying to escape from Greedo and his thugs.
What do you think of these three new sets?

These were totally left field, don’t recall a sniff of news that these were coming. Not only is it interesting that FFG are expanding IA even more, but that there doing a character from rebels.
Hope theres lots more to come for characters troops and vehicles from FFG.
Obi-Wan and Greedo are nice enough but kind of predictable at this point. The Inquisitor, however, opens some really exciting possibilities for the future of the game!
Confusing the Obi Wan Kenobi box has alec but the figure looks like ewan.
I’m glad they are continuing to branch into Rebels characters and ships. I wonder if we will see IA releases based on the new film timeline.
I know this will have a fair amount of Meh for a response but could we even see Prequel Characters, I like the Prequel Trilogy as I see it as Palpatine’s story with how he becomes Emperor.
I would absolutely love nothing more than to see prequel trilogy content in both IA and X-Wing. However, my sneaking suspicion is that either FFG haven’t licensed that time period or can’t license it. I get the feeling that Disney drew a line under The Clone Wars and said “Everything before this point (chronologically) is archived. Nobody is allowed near it.”
..and not for the sake of prosperity, either..
Have FFG released anything set in the prequels? I know the LCG is just the original trilogy, as is IA. X-Wing was but now has TFA as well. What about the rpg?
Nope. It’s all set during the GCW era.
..and the ships we have seen in X-Wing that have pre-dated the GCW are all from the Expanded Universe (aka Legends) and were not created for the prequel movies. A few of the EU ships (such as the Hounds Tooth) did show up in the Clone Wars series though.
I’d love them to release some prequel era stuff for Imperial Assault. Some Jedi, some of the Trade Federation Droids. I know a lot of people don’t like the sequels but I thought they were alright and I think they lend themselves well to ground based games because there was a much bigger focus on them than the original trilogy which focuses much more on space combat
I’m stoked that The Grand Inquisitor turning up means that the Rebels team are likely to show up at some point. And I wouldn’t be surprised if FFG are planning a Rogue One tie-in of some sort as it all fits into the general period in which Imperial Assault is supposed to take place…
(personally though? Kyle Katarn & Jan Ors would be perfect for this game…)
Hell yes to Kyle and Jan!b
Finally more lightsaber users.
There’s a lightsaber using character in The Bespin Gambit.
@toxicvex thought you liked Jawas?
It’s interesting that the picture on the packaging is definitely Alex Guinness but the miniature looks more like Ewan McGreggor
