Kickstart Two New Pulp Adventures For Shadows Of Brimstone!
July 19, 2023 by brennon
Flying Frog Productions are now live on Kickstarter with a campaign aimed at bringing two new Pulp adventures to the tabletop for fans of Shadows Of Brimstone! If you're looking to raid lost tombs and ride on a train bound for hell, this is the place to look!
Shadows Of Brimstone - Lost Tombs & The Hell Train Kickstarter
As mentioned above, this new Kickstarter campaign is looking to release two new Core Sets for people to dive into with the Shadows Of Brimstone rules. You can either tackle an Egyptian adventure with the Lost Tombs Of Khamuntet...

...or you can dive in and pick up a full head of steam with The Impossible Hell Train! Both of these are awesome cooperative dungeon crawling adventure games which build on their Pulp series which has been running for a long time!
The Impossible Hell Train // Shadows Of Brimstone
Using the awesome game mechanics from Shadows Of Brimstone, the Lost Tombs of Khamuntet sees you diving into trap-filled tombs and temples beneath the shifting sands whilst The Impossible Hell Train takes you to the Old West and the forsaken ruins of Brimstone. There, you'll need to fend off armed train robberies, winged demons and much more as you solve the mystery behind this strange locomotive.
Each of these games is an immersive and story-driven experience where you get to work together against the game. There are twelve different missions for you to play with a range of unique heroes that will require you to master various skills. As well as the missions, you'll also find an in-built campaign system which tracks the experience of your heroes from game to game meaning that you can level up before diving into your next adventure!
As well as the awesome gameplay of Shadows Of Brimstone, you'll also be able to get your hands on some ace hero and enemy miniatures. Tombs Of Khamuntet and The Impossible Hell Train both contain thirty-two miniatures each of which represent strange creatures and monstrous foes.
Inside The New Core Sets
You can see the miniatures here as part of this look at the two differing Core Sets...

The Impossible Hell Train - Contents // Shadows Of Brimstone
Wild West adventures and Egyptian tomb exploration are two mainstays of the Pulp genre and so it's nice to see so many fun characters and foes for people to play with in these sets. If you're interested in finding out more about both Core Sets, you can head on over to the Kickstarter Page for more information!
Kickstarter Exclusives!
As well as the two Core Sets, you can also get your hands on a couple of Kickstarter Exclusives which might be handy for those wanting to expand their collection. You could use two heroes for example with the Treasure Hunter and the Brimstone Ranger.
Treasure Hunter - Hero Pack // Shadows Of Brimstone
The Treasure Hunter is always in search of fortune and glory. They are great at weaving their way through traps and dealing with cryptic clues. If you're looking for lost relics then they seem like the right person to have by your side.
You could also embrace the life of the Lawman with the Brimstone Ranger.
Brimstone Ranger - Hero Pack // Shadows Of Brimstone
Handy when dealing with demons, the living dead and all manner of other creatures, these hardy and grizzled frontiersmen are able to keep you safe when you end up facing down the unthinkable. As you can imagine, these characters seem like they fit quite nicely into both of the new Core Sets that are part of this Kickstarter.
If you want to throw more cultists into your tabletop adventures then how about the Crimson Hand Enclave?
Crimson Hand Enclave - Expansion // Shadows Of Brimstone
This gives you four new Crimson Hand Heroes with the Inquisitor, Cultists, Acoylte and the Cloaked Assassin. Sometimes it's good to be bad and take on the role of the anti-heroes. All of them are as unique as the other heroes in the game, as you might have expected from Flying Frog.
As well as the heroes, you'll also get an eight-mission narrative story for you to dive into where you're looking to raid for relics and spread the influence of the Crimson Hand. You might even be able to summon some creatures from the Void to enact your will!
Stretch Goals!
If this wasn't enough, there are also loads of Stretch Goals for you to dive into as well!
Stretch Goals // Shadows Of Brimstone
This gives you a look at what has been unlocked so far but this is far from everything! There are loads more Stretch Goals for you to get a look at over on the Kickstarter Page which build on the experiences for both Core Sets. I really like the alternative miniatures for the different heroes so you can mix and match depending on your preference. A good bonus to throw in!

Now this looks interesting, Lloyd will be fuming you don’t get a train with the game hell train.
I picked up the first two Shadows of Brimstones starter and it’s an ok game that unfortunately requires a lot of table space and takes a long time to play.
However… Flying Frog are so focused on this cash cow of Shadows of Brimstone they they neglect other products like Fortune and Glory which I really enjoy… two expanions have been coming soon for years.
That Crimson Hands addon looks like they are just modifying the Crimson Hands expansion for Fortune and Glory.
Very big fan of Shadows of Brimstone. My hosts reckon they have enough content for now (and if not now they will with the feudal Japan stuff, or was it Vikings and Conquistadores?) – there’s a hella lot of content is what I’m saying
One thing to know about this is that their last Shadows of Brimstone Kickstarter was supposed to deliver in september of 2020. But it started delivery of the first of multiple waves this year.
So if you back this, you probably won’t be getting it in 2025.
I like how everyone already forgets that the pandemic, shipping crisis, and/or china shutdowns ate up over two years of that time line.
True… but China shuts down often.
Just noticed that UK and eu backers get charged VAT and have $30-45 shipping on top taking a single box up around $200.
Probably save a lot of money waiting for retail where you’ll get free shipping and may even get the game before backers do.
People have to pay their taxes. I never understand why that is such a hard thing to understand. But then again there are Stretch goals. Thats the entire point of Kickstarter after all. SGs more then cover any costs paid by paying a VAT tax.
Sure its not as great a deal as other countries get, but thats more of a you problem and your crappy tax structure.
> True… but China shuts down often.
fwiw, Archon makes its plastic in-house in Poland, so started shipping sprues of previously released stuff to backers in about three months. Smaller companies making mini’s out of resin and metal also don’t have China’s supply problems.
Too many games in the queue (so retail is fine with me as well) and I’m surprised to find out how much my unintentional collection of western, Egyptian, and kraken miniatures overlaps this KS. KDM Gambler’s Chest finally shipping, and I haven’t taken the shrinkwrap off the base game cards yet. 😛
Thanks for the reminder but I did not forget. I backed quite some stuff shortly before and in the pandemic and those projects did not come that late. if you looked in the commenst, quite a number of people talked about needing patience with Flying Frog Productions. If you look a the Forbidden Fortress KS, the first wave was delivered about one year later, which is not to bad. But the third wave was delivered 3 years later. And yes this wave was hit by the pandemic. Same with the first, wave 1 was only some months late but wave… Read more »
I have 9 other large box game kickstarters that have all been pushed way back by years because of the pandemic/shipping crisis/shutdowns. Most still will not deliver this year.
So I guess your mileage may vary, and you lucked out.
