The Zombicide Juggernaut Rolls On With A $5 Million Haul
June 28, 2017 by redben
The Zombicide Kickstarter juggernaut rolls on and on. The fifth instalment of the series, Green Horde, closed at midnight (by the Queen’s time) last night. Last time out, Black Plague had given the franchise a new lease of life by relocating the setting from the modern day to a fantasy medieval one.
It raised over $4 million, and in so doing became the most funded miniatures based Kickstarter campaign, and second overall in the tabletop category behind Exploding Kittens.
I had wondered whether Green Horde would be the first Zombicide campaign that didn’t raise more than the previous one as the novelty of the new setting may have worn off a little, plus Black Plague had done stupendously well.
But, nope. Nope.
Hitting New Targets
It appears we hadn’t remotely hit the ceiling for Zombicide as Green Horde clocked in at $5,004+775423,494. Almost a full $1 million more than Black Plague managed. It’s the fourth tabletop Kickstarter to crack the $5 million mark as Kingdom Death: Monster and Dark Souls have both topped that figure since Black Plague.
Nor is it the case that CMON hit this figure by squeezing the existing fanbase for more money per pledge. Green Horde pulled in over 27,000 backers, which is over 6000 more than Black Plague managed, and more than twice what Season three pulled in the time before. Unsurprisingly, it’s comfortably a new record for the franchise.
With Kingdom Death: Monster having closed its campaign this calendar year, and another CMON campaign, Rising Sun, recently topping the $4 million mark, this looks set to be another record year for tabletop games on Kickstarter.
Did you back this project?

went in on this, now I need to find somewhere to store it, and paint it
Backed Rising Sun, didn’t push the button on Green Horde or Black Plague though, bad timing / empty wallet syndrome prevented that. It’ll be a record year for CMON, let alone KS and i still feel an urge to check out BP on retail though.
ZBP is great fun to play, the retail is well worth 🙂
The it looks like my wallet has some work ahead of it 😀 .
I should have mine taken away from me 😉
Dont like the zombicide games, but love their miniatures!
And CMON announced their A Song of Ice and Fire game launching on KS next month. They are beating my wallet to death.
If I played Black Plague more then this might have been more attractive, but the prospect of all those models…
This was however a standalone game, so wasn’t dependent on the original like a pure expansion, and looked good value which probably explains its success.
Do they ever publish the final total after the pledge manager? I know I’ll probably end up spending more on the add-ons than my original pledge.
Not as far as I’m aware.
