Journeys In Middle-earth Gets Adventure Mode Update
December 16, 2019 by brennon
The Lord Of The Rings: Journeys In Middle-earth has now got an update from Fantasy Flight Games called Adventure Mode which makes the game a little more sedate for your Fellowship of heroes.
This new update for the game's app can be picked before you get stuck in and means that you'll be able to adventure and explore the maps in more depth, rather than being relentlessly pursued by the forces of Evil at every turn.
In this new mode, threat will be generated only from heroes and threat tokens. Unexplored tiles do not add threat into the mix and you also get inspiration each turn in order to combat the darkness around you. This means that you should be able to overcome more challenges and find more of the map without feeling like you're under constant pressure.
I can see this being a good way to enjoy the game in a more sedate fashion. Not everything needs to be a brutal slog against the game where you find everything arrayed against you! I might consider this if I end up getting into the game, taking the edge off and just enjoying the experience.
What do you think of the update which is available right now?

May be good exploring area’ barely/never talked about in the book’s.
I own the game.
The only challenge at all, is the darkness coming in and constant ticking clock.
So this mode is just plain easy mode, and will suck all the challenge out of the game. It would really make the campaign very boring to play (from a boardgame standpoint). Very easy mode, I should with the other changes.
Sure you could explore more, but so what… that’s really the draw of future play throughs.
Not a fan. The game needs more depth, this is not that.
@slayerofworlds Would it not be good for more casual players or people who are looking for a ‘plug their brain out for a while’ kind of game?
