Join The Epic Poem Beowulf With New Kickstarter Board Game
June 5, 2014 by brennon
Recently I picked up the translation of Beowulf by Tolkien and have been enjoying it immensely. So, when I saw that King Post were bringing an adaptation of the epic poem to Kickstarter in board game form I had to take note...
You'll be playing the leader of a tribe in the age of Beowulf looking to have your deeds transcribed into legend. Each turn while you battle fate and monsters you'll also be charting the progress of the heroic Beowulf as he goes from slaying Grendel to the mighty Dragon that ended his life.
The notion of the game and the way the flow of time is demonstrated in the mechanics sounds very intriguing and if you're a fan of history this might be right up your alley. As a Beowulf lover I'm very interested in picking this up.
What do you think?

It looks very interesting, though international postage and the possibility of customs and VAT I shall look out for it when it hits retail.
Interesting concept… tenuous link to a literary ‘brand’! Need to understand the game play better than the video shows before considering it further.
@Brennon – JRRT will be turning in his grave at the thought; he believed his translation to not be worthy of publication – it’s only his kin that are looking to make a buck out of it!
@coxjul – aye but it’s well worth the read anyway. Plenty of things Tolkien didn’t want to do have been done and since it’s been edited and compiled by his son who has been opposed to a lot of things I don’t feel bad in reading it.
The translation is very good and the commentary/lecture notes and such are very informative. Hearing “being drunk” described as “the ale fate” is quite the top moment so far 😉
For me definitely one to look out for. Shame they don’t have a uk distributor.
