Explore The Intricacies Of Inuk Life In Inuit: The Snow Folk
March 3, 2019 by cassn
As aurora borealis fills the night sky with fantastical light, and the eyes of those who came before look upon you, it has fallen on you to lead your village to power and prosperity. Now is the time to grow in numbers and strength, to build, to hunt, to look to the spirits of the white wilderness, and to prove yourself the greatest leader of the Snow Folk.
Inuit: The Snow Folk is a card-drafting tableau-building game for 2-4 players. On their turn each player will draw a card from a central pool to use in their village. These cards include Elders, Shamans, Warriors, Hunters, and Scouts. Use the skill from these new members of your community to provide food, expansion, weapons, and mystical Rites which will help you develop your village.
Interestingly, game publisher Board and Dice have stated that they are aware of the intricacies of minority group representation in board gaming, and have stated that Inuit: The Snow Folk is not a simulation of Inuit life, but rather a 'respectful tribute to Inuit everywhere.' They hope that, through playing this game, they can inspire more people to take a greater interest in Inuit culture.
Inuit: The Snow Folk will be released in April 2019, and is currently available for pre-order here.
How important do you think cultural sensitively is when designing a board game?
