More Info For Massive Darkness Announced At CMON Expo
May 9, 2016 by deltagamegirl22
As promised, the gang at CoolMiniOrNot were happy to divulge more information about their upcoming Kickstarter for Massive Darkness.
Massive Darkness will be CoolMini's modern approach to the classic dungeon crawler, with all the fantastic sculpts we have come to expect from CMON products.
In this game, players will get to tackle the dungeons cooperatively, without the need for a formal GM. All players can take on the roles of the heroes, and much like an RPG, there will be a campaign system involved, allowing players to gain experience and "level up" a they progress through the games.
This game will also feature an impressive amount of monsters, which will certainly add to the replayability to this game as it allows players to encounter different types of monsters when they play through games in the campaign.
The scenarios will set the games to feature specific monsters to be encountered in certain rooms, but there will also be a random feature quality that will spawn random monsters at various points to maintain the element of surprise.
What do you think of look of Massive Darkness?

Although this certain comic style* and the rather classic fantasy theme are nothing new, this specific take seems very well done to me. With the design feeling new and fresh between the individual models, especially the monsters / adversaries draw my attention. I like them.
* As known from some CMoN products it’s quite Rakham-ish and modern realistic-cartoonish – the former miniature company, not the artist, though that might fit, too, in a way. Which is nice. I mean references as well as the concistency in looks and the style itself.
Right now I’m really torn between this and the new Warhammer Quest. Both are looking very tempting and it’ll be interesting to see how the kickstarter develops. if this is anything like previous CMON efforts, there will be loads of extra KS exclusive heroes and they’ll want me to buy several addons.
As a painter, I know i’ll gravitate towards the one with the best minis but I’ll admit that I’m a little put off by the thought of pvc. Anyone have experience of this kind of mini? How well do they clean up and take paint?
personally don’t know – I understand reasonably well there is some nice stuff for Blood rage on CMON that’s the same material. Not checked out black plague yet
I’ve bought and painted Zombicide:Black Plague which is this is set in the same “universe” as that. I can tell you that the PVC plastic is very high quality, even better then their previous Zombicide games. Compared to most PVC plastic minis these are quite firm, with only the barest hint of mold lines and possibly an injection mark. Took most of it off with a hobby knife and some filling with green stuff with some minor filing fo the occasional injection port that went awry. For crispness of detail it’s not quite to the level of white metal or… Read more »
I think I’ve just found my perfect mini wargame. From what I can tell so far, this ticks every box for me.
Correction: mini BOARDGAME.
im in – the cmon sculpts are awesome, mix it with a broken token box and your sorted
This looks great, CMON games are excellent and you get massive value for money……but how many games can I play in my limited hobby time?? #firstworldproblems
let’s not forget : how many games can I afford (to kickstart)
Assuming these are at same level of detail as the ones in Zombicide:Black Plague it’s going to be hard to resist.
I also wonder if they’re making cross-over rules for those games as both style and theme seems to match.
Heck, replace zombies with Orc&goblins and you’re set …
I’m excited for this, and as far as the sculpts go I’d say they are amazing, and the material used is VASTLY superior to that of say dungeon saga, the zombicide black plague game rocks so I’m expecting similarities in quality!
Damn lack of hobby funds, this looks very nice, and exactly what I want from a dungeon crawler. Also highlight the difference between a games company releasing a game and a certain well known other brand releasing a dungeon jaunt game.
all the figures look great.
This is pretty much a must buy for me. I’m hoping the characters get crossover stat cards that also work with Zombicide:Black Plague!
More money to throw at CMON
This looks like my cup of tea, will definitely be checking out the Kickstarter when it launches.
Are we out of wizard poses? That looks exactly like the Grey Wizard from Warhammer Quest. Really love some of those monster sculpts!
