Osprey Games are going to be publishing two games (which are technically one) in May 2021. Nigel Buckle and Dávid Turczi's Imperium Classics and Legends are card games which put you in the boots of ancient civilisations vying for power across the world.

Imperium Classics - Osprey Games

Imperium: Classics // Osprey Games

Each of these games can be played as standalone experiences or they can be combined in order to build more civilisations into your collection. You can either play the game solo or with up to four people around the table, working with deck-building mechanics, hand management elements and more in order to make the most mighty civilisation.

The civilisations that you play as in the game, (Carthaginian, Celt, Greek, Macedonian, Persian, Roman, Scythian, and Viking in Classics) are all asymmetrical meaning that you are all going to have different paths to victory.

Imperium: Legends uses exactly the same rules but throws a bunch of different civilisations into the mix.

Imperium Legends - Osprey Games

Imperium: Legends // Osprey Games

With this set, you've got Arthurians, Utopians, Atlantians, Egyptians, Mauryan, Minoan, Olmec and Qin civilisations. This means that you can either pick up Classics or Legends and have fun with that or bring everything together and create a different experience with a whole host of well-illustrated cards.

The key focus of the game is going to be around the growth of your civilisation through various means. You also need to temper your expansion because if you go to fast, you might fall into mayhem. If you go to slow then you might lose out to the other civilisations around the tabletop.

If this game interests you then you can download the full Rulebook and Solo Rulebook from Board Game Geek right now. This game certainly sounds fascinating and I do really like the artwork from Mihajlo Dimitrievski.

Are you tempted to give these games a go?
