There is more land to be discovered in Horizon Zero Dawn: The Board Game from Steamforged Games, which means more huge robotic nasties to take down as a vigilant Hunter.

Fireclaw Expansion // Horizon Zero Dawn: The Board Game

The Fireclaw expansion has been announced for the tabletop adventure, inspired by the popular PlayStation 4 game, Horizon Zero Dawn. Matching the expansion of the virtual game The Frozen Wilds, the upcoming expansion of the board game brings the volatile tank of claws and fire into the mix. The Fireclaw is on its way, and its pure rage and fury take no prisoners.

Horizon Zero Dawn: The Board Game held up a hefty Kickstarter back in 2019, which took players into the world of Aloy, taking down mechanically-minded monsters as part of missions and objectives belonging to the Hunter's Lodge.

Although there are quite a few very lucky backers out there to already have their claws in this expansion - like the Thunderjaw coming in October and Stormbird in November (and of the rest of them!) - we are now able to look at what is up next for those who didn't back! Along with in-depth features prior to the official retail release.

The more I look into Horizon Zero Dawn: The Board Game from Steamforged Games, the more I go all shiny-crow-eyed over the models inside, considering they would make an incredible diorama.

An enemy that is not for the faint-hearted. It would certainly be worth taking down the Thunderjaw with ease first before attacking this gargantuan unit.

The Fireclaw is one of the toughest challenges in the game, considered the most powerful enemy - this unit must be taken down with tactical decision and precision or face peril in its violent warpath of fury. Taking a completely different tactic with this enemy, players must learn the unnerving attitude of this beast.

Attacking with fire will not work, and be prepared for things to get a little toasty. The Fireclaw does what it says in the tin, a ton of fire and much of the claw.  This giant mechanically built death-tool of flaming knives will work from two different behaviour decks - whilst taking on either a biped or a quadruped stance. Affecting the different behaviours depending on where the monster is standing within the hex grid in relation to the hunter.

Obviously, players will want to reap the spoils of this battle and get out of a constant singe of burning, so the Fireclaw has a few weaknesses to pick at when it is throwing itself at you in its full-fledged rampage. Players will need to hack away at a lot of removable components protecting the underbelly of the beast. Each component removed will take chunks off of the Fireclaw's health, but be prepared to fuel the fire whilst doing so.

The Fireclaw expansion is available as a Steamforged Games exclusive expansion, which will be heading way to our tabletop in November 2021. So if you are up for a fire-breathing challenge that would sure to make a dragon weep for mercy - you might want to check into the hunter's lodge and seek out their most recent mission.

Are you a fan of the Horizon Zero Dawn franchise? Is there an enemy you are looking forward to joining the fray?
