Hobbity Showing Off New Game 303 Squadron At SPIEL ’19
October 21, 2019 by brennon
Hobbity are going to be showing off their World War II fighter game, 303 Squadron, at Essen SPIEL '19 this week. This game has had a few outings already but puts you in the boots of some inspiring characters from World War II.
The game focuses on one of the most effective and daring squadrons in the RAF. Featuring a good number of Polish pilots they were integral in the Battle Of Britain and helped defend the shores of Blighty against waves of German attackers.
303 Squadron is a quick, fast-paced and intense game for one-to-four players and makes use of a number of unique scenarios which tell a story of the unfolding battle in the air.
As well as the plane-to-plane dogfighting which unfolds during your normal game turns you'll also be forced to face some twists and turns where your decisions could change the course of the battle. This means that you're going to have to fight smart in 303 Squadron rather than just throwing your planes at the enemy to hope you'll doggedly drag them down.
Using a mixture of card-based gameplay and dice you'll be able to take a serious amount of control of your pilots and their actions. Using an in-built AI to control the game and the Germans you're going up against this is going to be a strategic challenge for your group as you cooperate and work together in order to stop yourself falling from the skies in a burning wreck.
When the game eventually releases it will feature more than thirty planes, two hundred different cards and also a selection of custom dice and tokens to fit the game.
This sounds like it could be a lot of fun and I love the idea of it being entirely cooperative as you take on the thundering drone of German planes on the horizon.

If you’re overcome by nostalgia, Plastic Soldier Company reprinted it not long back.
The KS is at the end of November. That is a tough time of year but I will keep an eye out.
