Human Interface: Nakamura Tower Launches On Kickstarter
April 20, 2015 by brennon
I'm obsessed with Cyberpunk right now. Android: Netrunner, films like Bladerunner, video games like Deus Ex; I've played or watched everything I can to get into the zone. It's now got worse as an obsession since Human Interface: Nakamura Tower (HINT) has launched on Kickstarter...
What's The Game About?
The game pits two factions against each other in the eponymous Nakamura Tower. On one side you have the Corporation under the control of Yukio Nakamura and on the other you have the Mercenaries called the Ubermensch. In the middle against both sides is the buildings security systems and A.I which has set all its drones and such on a kill order to make sure no-one completes their goal.
At its heart HINT is a board game but one that also comes with a lot of elements that you'd consider part of both wargames and role-playing games. Throughout the game you'll be using cards to build and add to your character as well as play the game since through a nifty mechanic you don't need dice.
The CanDo system uses cards and tokens (which you can see more on below) which emphasis that each of these different characters are good at what they do and so instead of 'trying to hit' they can have varying degrees of success due to the different cards played altering the outcome.
What's In The Pledge?
Below you can take a look at the different components that make up the basic pledge level for HINT...
...and a closer look at the different components is below. It already looks like a pretty safe bet to pick up the boxed set too since it's reasonably priced as a pledge level. It's even more impressive when they're going to throw in all the unlocked stretch goals with this too.
Miniatures!
All the components, at this stage at least, look very polished and the miniatures are also looking to be quite the nice addition for fans of metal and something other than plastic board game pieces. Check out some of them below...
Each of the models are 32mm scale so slightly bigger than normal but packed with detail. The crew behind this game have already showed off some prototypes and the finished product (at this stage) looks to be very nice indeed. They appear to paint up nicely (if the above are anything to go by) which is an added extra!
Stretch Goals Ahoy
There are already two Stretch Goals planned for the campaign...
I think both of these are very cool indeed and even if in years to come I don't play the game as much I could still see myself keeping these Cyberpunk miniatures for a range of different role-playing projects.
What I'd like to see now is a gameplay video showing off how all of this comes together and works as a project. That could well be the selling point for many backers.
What do you think so far?

I’ve been waiting for this, are any of the BoW staff backing this one?
I’m very tempted to but I’m watching to see what gameplay is like before I pledge.
BoW Ben
I was also going to wait for at least some hints on the game mechanics… And then I saw the metal miniatures and “solo play option” and pledged. 🙂 These decisions need to be supported.
There’s enough there already for me to take a punt, a video demoing gameplay would be nice and certainly if something comes along that completely puts me off I always have the option of pulling out before the KS finishes. I’m a sucker for all things sci-fi/cyberpunk so this is right up my street.
Plus if you back now Brennon you save six whole pounds!
Colour me interested.
The sci-fi theme, art and miniatures all look great. But I like to see a few independent first impressions videos where thy show some gameplay and discuss the depth of the game.
Maybe send a prototype to The Dice Tower guys?
The comments section of the KS page is filled with rage over the metal miniatures. :/ Do these people even play with the models they purchase? I dread every “28 mm. resin true-scale human” I receive nowadays (yes, Warzone, I’m looking at you!).
I guess maybe people are coming from it with the ‘board game’ angle rather than the ‘miniatures game’ angle that I think the creators were going for here.
I was pleased to see someone mentioned Infinity and their metal miniatures which I hope should persuade people that the medium is fine.
…saying that I do much prefer plastic and such but metal seems to be working well for them at the prototype stage so all good.
Judging by the photos, the moulds must be already made. So there’s nothing the creators can do right now, IMHO. I doubt that they’ll scrap everything and start from beginning.
Man, resin is much less user-friendly for casual gamer, if you ask me… If the studio had no money for a plastic line, metal was really their best bet.
Brennon that was me mentioning the Infinity miniatures on the KS lol I’m the one essentially sticking up for the project in the comments section. I should get an honorary mention in the rulebook.
Kudos 😉
I really want to take a look on the game mechanics or see game play before pledge. but I am really interested, love net runner shadowrun and deus ex kind of games.
I actually asked them on Facebook about when we will see a game play video and they told me they are in the process of doing a video of the tutorial mission. So hopefully that will come soon.
looks pretty neat
This is so tempting.
They’re being very cagey about shipping. This makes me smell a rat.
Well, if these guys are from Poland, they probably can’t estimate the shipping costs before they get at least the rough estimate on the number of boxes.
Which makes me worried, by the way. Who are those people? Both the KS page and their Facebook page look a wee bit… language-stiff, I’d say. Like the texts were written by a non-native speaker, and it shows. I can see it, and I’m not a native English speaker. Wonder if it’ll impact the quality of the game…
Lots of kickstarters struggle with shipping estimates. Conan by Monolith still haven’t got definite shipping costs yet.
already pledged. customs in my country are easier with metal minis and printed material than plastic stuff
Just to give you guys an update apparently a PDF of the basic rules will be uploaded on their kickstarter page at some point today with a video coming tomorrow. Also they’ve said more details about shippings costs will be given over the coming days.
…People still bitching about the metal miniatures. *facepalm*
I know heaven forbid they have to glue the miniature’s together.
What a bunch of whiners in the comment section.
For me looks like the Best Sci-Fi Game nominee for 2015.
