A HeroQuest For Newcomers! Brand New First Light Set
October 8, 2024 by brennon
Avalon Hill are taking pre-orders for a new entry point into the dungeon delving and adventuring of HeroQuest. First Light has been designed as a great option for those wanting to try HeroQuest without having to shell out the £100 for the original set.
HeroQuest: First Light // Avalon Hill
First Light comes in at £37.99 and comes with everything you need to start playing HeroQuest. It is also compatible with the rest of the HeroQuest expansions so you can still use First Light as the basis for your larger HeroQuest collection.
Inside, you'll find ten unique questions and a beginner-friendly rulebook. Talking of beginner-friendly, the set comes with miniatures representing the four mighty heroes and the dragon that will act as your fearsome final foe but the rest of the miniatures in the set are represented by sixty-seven full-colour standees.

I really like this. It means that you and your friends (or kids) can get stuck into painting the heroes and the dragon but then just have fun chasing the standees around the tabletop. The artwork looks great so why not make use of it? This is also one of the reasons why First Light is cheaper than the big core box for HeroQuest.
The gameboard is also double-sided and as you can see, it comes with new illustrations which are more immersive. You're also not getting the plastic dungeon furniture in this set either and that has been replaced by cardboard tokens. I think this is a great idea for those wanting to dive in with their family.
HeroQuest: First Light // Avalon Hill
Each of the ten unique quests in First Light can be played in the traditional format with one player taking on the role of Zargon. You can also play using the Companion App which means that you can work cooperatively against the game (or play solo). A great idea.
With HeroQuest returning to be another great gateway into tabletop gaming and dungeon delving, it makes sense that there is a cheaper version as an entry point. Whilst the main HeroQuest game is routinely on sale, it never comes close to the £37.99 of First Light so this could be a very intriguing prospect!
First Light is available to pre-order now ahead of a release in February 2025!

Good old common-sense accidentally breaks out at Hasbro! 🙂
I hope it’s got 10 Quests instead of Questions 😉 (the editor missed one typo 😉 )
