Is there a reason why there are so many Conan games coming out recently? Has Howard’s original copyright expired? Or is it just really popular at the moment?
Howard’s so long dead that copyright should be long gone. Disney keep getting the rules changed so their stuff doesn’t go out of copyright.
Plus Conan has half naked women and violence which always sells.
Thinking about it… do they have the rights to use Arnold’s name?
“officially licensed” it says on the add on box. But the shipping… $1 to get in, $40 for the add on and $20 – $50 for shipping. So anywhere from $61 – $91 for three Arnolds… damn :S

Those minis will need to have been licensed from both the Howard estate and the film studio responsible for the Conan films.
It is possible that they’ll also need to have gotten the rights from Arnold himself- but it is also possible that they won’t. In the 1980s, studios making toy-marketable films would sometimes obtain the rights they’d need from their actors when they signed them on.
As for his name- that will be tied into their method for obtaining the rights.
‘Legend of Conan’ may be the reason.
It’s supposed to be starring the Terminator himself.

The Conan stories are public domain ( http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/author/36031 ) as is quite a lot of authors from that era, because they predate the stupid extension of copyright by the Disney demons.

Saw this on ks earlier. On the page they used ‘role’ instead of ‘roll’ and ‘roll’ instead of ‘role’. If they can’t use such simple words in the correct context I have little faith in their ability to deliver a kickstarter.

I really like the look of those Arnold models. I’m a huge fan of the 1982 Conan. I may have to get this just for the models….

Well those miniatures look really good.
The miniature renders looks quite ok… but almost nothing is said about the game. The company is a complete unknown (at least for me) and it seems the biggest claim are the miniatures while they havent produced any miniature game so far (at least not that i have seen on their webpage) and doesnt show any production or master mini. This looks “very green” imho.
Maybe is because im tired of waiting for eternal ks or receiving miniatures that arent quality wise what they promised to deliver
Shinobi 7 have one or two games under their belt including a Sonic the Hedgehog racing game. If I were interested in the game I wouldn’t have too much concern about backing. Sadly the game isn’t for me.

I’m not really sold on it. Individually the miniatures are OK but it seems to lack any consistent theme. On the one hand we see barbarians and on the other we see medieval nobles. It doesn’t seem to know what it wants to be. And the artwork is doing nothing for me at all. I have to say that I am glad I have the Monolith board game.
What year is Conan again?
Looking over these minis, some of them look like they’re from Megalithic (Bronze Age) times, some look like they’re 4th century and others look 14th Century or later.
My impression is that Conan is meant to be Monolithic.
Hmmmm “Arena style combat game”, but looking at it, it looks like anything but. Now if they had just done a more Gladiatorial/Pit Fighter type game IN an arena they would have had me hooked. With the mix of Bards. wizbangs and semi-clad girls it just seems to be more of a skirmish style game than an arena based one. BUT as other have already pointed out there’s almost no info on the rules themselves (other than offering it to Backers in a “exclusive” playtesting period….which doesn’t sound good from past experience).
