Guide Your Clan Into New Lands With Hokkaido
October 9, 2018 by cassn
After establishing themselves in Honshu, your clan casts their eye upwards to the mountains of Hokkaido. A great challenge lies ahead, but great rewards as well.
Hokkaido is the second in Lautapelit.fi's Nippon series of map-building games. Like it's predecessor Honshu, each game is divided into twelve rounds, with each round consisting of two phases.
In the first phase, players bid their map cards, and the player who played the highest card gets the first choice of which map card they wish to use to expand their personal map. At the end of the twelve rounds, points are tallied based on the different scoring possibilities unlocked through tile placement.
It is difficult to see any major difference between Hokkaido and Honshu other than a new, snowy landscape to create, however, more will be known when the rulebook is released. Indeed, even if this is mechanically the same game, it probably won't dissuade fans of this Nippon series, as Honshu was incredibly popular when it was released back in 2016.
Hokkaido can currently be pre-ordered from the Lautapelit.fi website. There's no confirmation that the game will be releasing at Essen, but fans have their fingers crossed!
