Grindhouse Announces an Incursion of Kickstarter!
June 11, 2013 by dracs
Incursion, the claustrophobic board game set in the rich world of Secrets of the Third Reich, has long been a favourite game of mine and now my excitement is reaching fever pitch as Grindhouse have announced they are relaunching it on Kickstarter!
For those of you who have not had the fortune to play this game, Incursion sees players taking on the roles of either the hordes of Nazi zombies and their masters, or the allied forces trying to make their way through them to discover the sick sciences kept in the labyrinthine laboratories of the Rock of Gibraltar.
Here is the full announcement from Jim Bailey of Grindhouse Games:
Okay, let's open it up. Let's just kick the door down and get right into it, shall we? John Roberts and I are heading up a re-release of Incursion. Yeah, it's gonna be a Kickstarter. Cat's out of the bag now! If only I had that tool when I first set out to do this thing.. The game maintains a stratospheric 8 out of 10 on Board Game Geek and has a die-hard fanbase. Why? It's a damned good game and it's authentic. Don't take my word. Go read all the reviews, Go see what the folks like Michael Barnes and Superfly Pete at Fortress Ameritrash have to say about it. Go see what Anatoli has to say about it. Go to the Grindhouse forums and read about it.
Though a world-class cast of artists and designers participated throughout two print runs and the SNAFU expansion, this was all funded initially by the sale of my golden-age comic book collection and thousands of wargaming figs I had painted. Now that we have Kickstarter, we can finally kick this thing up into the clouds where it belongs and shank evil monopoly big distribution at the same time.
Plastic: the holy grail. It's what we always wanted to do. Just never had the hundred grand up front we needed. Yeah, lots of boardgamers bought the game and played with cardboard standups and LOVED IT. Lots of miniature lovers bought the metal because it's heavy, hard, and beautiful and built their own 3d boards. We're going to keep/expand the metal line but also convert everything to boardgamer-friendly and horde-builder plastic. We have new missions, new models, and all sorts of other stuff planned. Metalheads and previous purchasers rejoice: we will craft the Kickstarter such that you can get ONLY the new stuff if you wish, and/or just go whole-hog and gorge yourself on plastic.
Though the game is a re-release with lots of new add-ons, upgraded components, MUCH higher quality print stock ,new art, and PLASTIC, getting to Kickstarter is still unfortunately a couple of months away. It's alot of work to plan and execute "one of the big ones". I hope you will join us for the ride. - Grindhouse Games
So with the help of Kickstarter we could be seeing some of the great monsters and heroes of Incursion appearing in plastic. This is really exciting news as I have always lamented the lack of actual miniatures in the boxed game as being the only thing which prevents it from becoming the ideal doorway into Secrets of the Third Reich.
What sort of changes, if any, do you hope this Kickstarter re-release might bring?

That is FANTASTIC news!
Picked up Incursion a couple of years ago when Grindhouse ran a promo on it but have just never been able to justify the (oh-so-pretty) metal minis. But a Kickstarter for a plastic filled re-release? Aww yeah……
😉
I’d love to support Westwind and Secrets of the Third Reich… some of their Russian tanks are incredible. But I can’t help but think I should get into Dust instead. Maybe all I need to do is get into Incursion.
Thats funny :p ive been waiting for decent rules to use my Dust minis with .. im sure many will fit for incursion 🙂
I think incursion is meant to be played in corridors and closed spaces. More skirmish than battle. The basic Secrets of the Third Reich rules may be more your thing.
I pre-ordered this back in 2009 though it’s only hit the gaming table once. Depending on the cost I might pick up some plastics for it.
One of the first non-book reviews I did was a collaboration with Justin to review this game. I can’t remember if it ever got published or not.
Hmm I suppose I kinda have to back some level of the kickstarter. I played some pre-release games back when rules were still being nailed down, put some questions and feedback on the Grindhouse forum, bought the limited run metal tinned miniatures set, bought the boxed game when it was released … then bought SNAFU and the models released alongside SNAFU … theeeen bought an almost complete set of all the miniatures for a price that was too low to not grab. As nice as Westwind’s miniatures are I’ve always felt Grindhouse’s were a step up in both design and… Read more »
May take a look but I’m not really into WWW games.
