Massive Darkness Has Made A Grand Entrance Onto Kickstarter
June 8, 2016 by deltagamegirl22
Oh boy! When CoolMiniOrNot take a project onto Kickstarter, you can always expect big numbers and the launch of the long awaited, Massive Darkness, is no exception.
On it's first day, it's made over $705,000! Let me repeat part of that - on day one!
Massive Darkness is a dungeon crawling board game for 1 to 6 players. With no game master and streamlined rules, players take their heroes on a series of quests to defeat the forces of Darkness.
On their way they'll face many challenges, including a large variety of enemies that range from mobs of evil dwarves to gargantuan demons and spiders.
To be victorious, heroes will need to acquire new skills throughout the campaign, find the the best loot to equip themselves, and learn how to use the cover of darkness to their advantage!
I know there's always a debate on whether solo play is an important option for game play, but I'm of the camp, why not offer it when you can make it work with your game?
Solo play offers an individual to try out a game and get comfortable with it before introducing it to their friends, as well as offers a fantastic option for play when those friends are not available when you're feeling like a dungeon crawl.
Being this is a campaign style miniatures board game, Massive Darkness comes with these fantastic plastic character dashboards, that allow you to keep track of your player's inventory as well as life points.
Speaking of miniatures, this game comes with a ton of great looking minis, offering you lots of character options and baddies to fight in the darkness. And since they've slayed their funding goal on the first day, it's safe to assume that this Kickstarter will be busting at the seams with amazing stretch goal add ons.
The perfect example of a Kickstarter bonus is the Kickstarter Exclusive, Cliffbreaker Cyclops, who not only look amazing, but is MASSIVE - literally.
Just look at the scale with him featured with a regular mini.
Will you be taking the plunge into Massive Darkness?

Hey, day 1 is not over, there are still 9 hours missing for full 24 hours.
Kicktraq tends to rule the first day at a fixed point regardless of what time it started. In this instance, Massive Darkness finished at $791, 208.
It’s ahead of where Dark Souls was after day one, whichever way you calculate it, so we might be seeing the bar getting raised again for KS boardgames.
Bloody Hell this game looks excellent.
Jumped on board as early as I could, the torrent of stretch goals has been quite breathtaking so far.
I promised myself that Purgatory would be my only KS indulgence this year but this has me questioning my vow. It’s so hard to argue with the value you get with a CMON KS.
I promised myself 1 KS a year as well… This is my 4th… Well 5th if you include the Frostgrave Gnickstarter ><
Holly molly almost a million in less than a day. That is impressive…
I think I am going to have to back it because I think they are going to need come up with new stretch goals.
This will be the 4th C’mon kickstarter I’ve backed they really do know how to knock it out of the park.
Have said it before I do like the miniatures. They not only have this beloved look & feeling of the comic concepts for Confrontation (which Rackham themselves didn’t bring as directely intolerant the sculpts as CMoN Do now) but also almost throughout the entire range (the adversairs at least) there is this rugged, rough and edgy quality. Gameplay seems somewhat limited and thus challenging judging by the video. But you can spot several ways to approach situations differently than the players did right there already. Which might be promising. I love the customization options for the heroes. Building characters is… Read more »
Darn autocorrection… meant “directly into the sculpts” in the second sentence.
I’m diggin’ how the monsters can carry random items and not only that, they can possibly use them as well. Simple, yet has that extra umph to it.
Keeping a close eye on this one. The game looks fun, but I’m not yet sold on the miniatures. The monsters look great so far, but I hope they have some alternative sculpts of the minions as a future stretch goal. The hero minis however, are totally underwhelming. more variety and more interesting heroes will make me jump in with both feet.
I set my alarm and managed to get an early bird pledge in this time. I’ve backed CMON stuff before and have been very impressed with the way they have run the campaign.
Also, the idea of crossing over black plague and Massive Darkness sounds too good to be true.
On a side note, my Black Plague 2nd wave should be delivered today as it’s shown as out for delivery.
Mine turned up this morning. Took some explaining to the wife that I hadn’t just spent more money on a massive box of gaming stuff lol
Did they say if there’s going to be any interaction with Black Plague ?
The art style is a direct match, which would make it rather easy to at least replace monsters with zombies (or vice versa) just for a bit variety.
I kind of wish companies were forced to finish their active kickstarters before starting a new one though.
Then again … with the stuff they’ve already prepared that may not be much of an issue for these guys.
My friend backed it, if not, it would’ve been me! This game looks really nice!
Received Zombiecide BP – Have to say the quality and value for money is absolutely top notch. Of all KS’s i have taken part in am struggling to think of one that comes close to CMoN.
If this is even half as fun as Zombiecide BP it will be well worth the pledge !
