Grab John Doe And Head To The DreadBall Pitch
December 22, 2012 by brennon
So we had a look at Number 88 and Grim Ironstone yesterday but today we have a look at John Doe from Mantic Games' DreadBall MVP roster...
You can pick up this tentacled horror from the webstore linked above. This once again has had a rather epic looking paint scheme and it should be fun to see what people do with him colour wise.
Which MVP will you be hiring?

You know it’s funny – I just had a seafood risotto for dinner, with tender squid, succulent prawns and a sweet king scallop on top. So is it just me or does John Doe look like he’d make for an agreeable dinner? This of course brings the hypothetical debate that if squid people were real, would the consuming of them be taboo and could one really eat Cthulhu’s minions?
Still he doesn’t scare me, all you’d have to do is run at him with half a lemon in each hand and a bib flapping in the wind around your neck to show that you mean business.
I like the sculpt, although it’s hard to see how his ‘feet’ would work. In fact I’ll always associate him with the squid I just consumed, so he’s probably the only mini I’ve seen, bar the occassional lobster or giant crab, where I think “ummm, tasty” in spite of the purple paint job…that’s really quite wrong isn’t it?
I think he runs the same way as humans (probably walks too, depending on how fast he needs to go) just with a more stable base since his tentacles can cover more surface area than a human foot. I imagine when he’s moving slowly, he just doesn’t move the legs and walks on the tentacles. Hell, maybe he’s good enough to do that on the Dreadball pitch to dodge a charging Guard smoothly.
Stat-wise he looks pretty good – good Strength, average Speed and Armour, poor Skill but he’s a Guard so he doesn’t need it and that Gotcha! ability of his could really disrupt the enemy. Kinda slow-ish, though – same Move as a Forge Father. Average Minimum Cost per Game for an MVP too.
All that being said, I haven’t had a chance to play the game yet (been building my Striker pack instead) but should get a game or two in this afternoon. So my comment on how disruptive Gotcha! can be is just from reading it’s effects in the book.
Actually that reminds me – did anyone on the Beasts of War team get the game? Curious to see your thoughts on the game.
