A Bloodthirsty Board Game For Age Of Sigmar & General’s Handbook Sneak Peek
June 27, 2016 by brennon
Games Workshop have shown off a few teasers for the future of Age of Sigmar over the next few months. The first of these is a new board game set within the bloodsoaked world of a Khorne warrior with Gorechosen. They also took a sneaky look inside the General's Handbook...
This game will see two to four players taking on the role of warriors of Khorne who are trying to win the favour of the Blood God in this rather slick crimson arena. Inside you have a number of the new plastic heroes for the Khorne forces in Age of Sigmar and you'll be clashing in a card and dice based game of blood soaked violence.
It seems like a small and self contained experience BUT it also gives you four new models for use in Silver Tower too which is rather neat. Maybe you could use this to decide which one of them steps into those glittering halls?
General's Handbook
On top of that news about Gorechosen we also got a look at the cover for the General's Handbook and the Contents for this big tome which is going to be tweaking the way you play Age of Sigmar.
I think I'll be picking this one up and from what we've heard of it so far I think this could be a rather useful tool for getting stuck into your games.
As you can see it has all manner of interesting rules to look forward to including the addition of the Path to Glory Campaign rules within one place as well as rules for getting plenty of Warbands onto the table which is neat. I think this might be my first port of call.
I'm stoked to see where this goes over the next few months.
What do you think?

May have to buy Gorechosen. Sounds like it could be a fast, fun arena game. I see this more as a filler type game, something which will come out at the start of a session say, while waiting for the rest of your group to arrive, or as a warm down at the end of a day. Shame the other Slaughterpriest, and Exalted Deathbringer models aren’t there, but who knows, maybe the rules will be like the new flyer game and have rules to include them. I think it is good to see GW exploring “other ways to play”. They… Read more »
I suspect that there could be a lot of people who will see the Generals Handbook as the rulebook GW should have released in the first place.
I think even GW realises that their initial rulebook was a bit too thin on actual content …
They wouldn’t have listed it as “essential” …
bwt : Can publishers please stop using the word ‘essential’ for stuff that isn’t ?
and if it is that essential as you imply … why not include it in the core rule book to begin with ?
Agreed with Kommissar, it would be a perfetct fit as a WD game. I guess, the main attraction with those games comes from the ‘bundle’ price tag rather than the content.
Nevertheless, I look forward to try it.
General’s Handbook seems like proper rulebook for AoS that people have been waiting for too long.
The Khorne arena business looks like a laugh.
Love how they decided to put one tile in there and also made sure its super small .. not seeing this being any more expanded and supported than assassinorum tbh.
@brennon, that idea of connecting the games as stepping stones in some champions’ paths to win their patrons’ favour is brilliant. Thanks! You could develop systems to proceed and how winning stages will affect the next games (beyond emerging victorious, i.e. sometimes surviving characters) and how the other players participate with new characters. You might even play some kind of arena for followers of each of the dark gods. So, you’ll have about four winning or surviving characters (or undead or revivified or whatever) with certain changes / developments / marks depending on their patron’s arena’s specifics and encounters. Forming… Read more »
Looks good enough and if I was into AoS or The Silver Tower I’d definitely be adding it to my collection. Just wish they’d put a little more thought into the name. The classics worked (Gorechild, Bloodthirster, Bloodletter etc.) but now they’re taking the piss. I know it’s all “Blood for the Blood God” but I don’t think he awards Khorny points for naming every item you encounter after him.
yeah, the names are a bit too Khorny … 😉
The only good thing of AoS was the lack of points: now the disaster is complete.
I like the idea of this kind of game but the fact its Khorne only really disappoints me. I have zero interest in Khorne and Im sick to death of it being shoved down our throats, sorry I know thats extremely negative but cant we see something different? Why is this Khorne only? Dont they need enemies to fight against as well?
Oh well maybe I should look at Arena Rex again
They did make Silver Tower with Tzeentch not long ago heh – but if they’re going to do an Arena of Champions style deal it probably makes sense it’s Khorne.
I think it’s more their way of trying to sell you the heroes for you to use than anything.
