Gorechosen Boxed Game Pre-Orders Open For Age Of Sigmar Fans
September 17, 2016 by brennon
Gorechosen, the next boxed game for Age of Sigmar, is now just one week away from release. You can now pre-order the game proper over on the Games Workshop website and get your slaughter on!
The game has you playing as one of four favoured of Khorne looking to win glory and honour in an arena soaked in blood. The mechanics are simple and easy to get into and I have to say, it's looking like this could be a lot of fun!
You can find out more about the game mechanics in the Overview Video above which goes into some of the details as to how each warrior fights. I do like the threat zones for each hero meaning that there is a little bit of manoeuvring needed to get your characters into a bloodletting position.
In terms of what you get inside the box...
- 4 Gorechosen Champion miniatures, each with their own ultraviolent playing styles and signature moves:
- Redarg Bloodfane, Exalted Deathbringer;
- Kore Hammerskull, Skullgrinder;
- Heldrax Goretouched, Slaughterpriest;
- Vexnar the Reaper, Aspiring Deathbringer;
- A double-sided arena board with hex grid;
- 4x Fighter Reference cards, with rules and health trackers;
- 52 Action, Initiative and Critical Injury cards;
- 16 page rulebook, which includes rules for an additional four Gorechosen characters;
- Assorted tokens and dice necessary to play.
Which also sounds very neat indeed. The tile work going into the base board for the game is very nice actually. Here are the two sides you'll get to choose from.
I think I prefer the darker arena with the blocking terrain all around the middle of the board. It should make for some interesting stand-offs.
The Champions
It would be a heinous deed to not show off the combatants that are going to be jumping into the arena to do battle. So, here we have the models.
You will have seen all of these before as part of the larger Khorne force that hit the tabletop for Age of Sigmar a few months ago now.
I got to say that while they are over the top and crazy I think that fits into the world that little bit more now. I actually really like the style they've gone for here with their Khorne models.
These models aren't going to be to everyone's tastes that's for sure but I reckon as character models duking it out in cinematic combat - they've got them on the money. The more traditional Khorne look works very nicely here too with the Skullhammer (above).
Rounding things off we do have the Slaughterpriest. While I don't mind his look I think the horns over his shoulders do seem a bit goofy. I would pick the other Slaughterpriest (the one from the front of White Dwarf) over him any time.
Which 'hero' will you play as?

These designs just don’t do it for me at all, I don’t know if they’re meant to convey a sense of dredd or ferocity but they just look like cartoons.
Local store is going to demo, if it plays well may pick this up. Preview looks like there could be something in the rules. Want to see how it plays.
Not an AoS fan at all but tempted to pick it up – as @dags said above, need to see a demo I think
I thin i will buy it and i love that GW finally included a inlay for the miniatures and the gaming material.
Those two arenas seem overly cartoony for my taste. I have seen lot better arenas for Avatars of War Arena Deathmatch.
I like it and the price tag is okay as well. I guess just like the freebie Slaughterpriest those are going to make some nice painting projects.
It will be a welcome bonus if the game actually is fun as well.
Actually I kind of want to see your painted champions, be interesting to see them in your dull, muted tones rather than the bright colours often used by Games Workshop
I quite like the look of this. If anyone gets to play a demo in the next couple of weeks, please can you let us know what it’s like?
This comes across as possibly quite boring and drawn out. Though I think the models actually suit the aesthetic of the game more than as part of a table top wargame.
As always with GW, top marks for presentation.
A demo might change my opinion
Will likely pick this up as a fun little game to play of an evening and as a fun little painting project.
looks good.
blood for the blood god.
It’s not too bad for £35 either.
£35 is pretty good, individually from the GW site theire £18 if i recall.
I do like their new models gore champ models (just not their price…), and had considered getting some and getting rid of the khorne iconography from the models, and using them as generic evil men in other systems. more tempted now with this box of fancy baddies.
I will definetley be picking this up. I keep hearing good things about Silver Tower, Im falling for Age of Sigmar, and I have a Bloodbound army, so this is a bit of a no-brainer for me as purchases go.
I think I’d rather use these minis and play Area Rex
