Mythic Battles: Pantheon Hit The Seas With Poseidon Expansion
November 11, 2016 by brennon
Continuing its mighty march towards ever more impressive stretch goals the Mythic Battles: Pantheon Kickstarter has now unlocked the Poseidon Expansion!
Poseidon is looking fantastic, a mighty God whose realm was all but safe from the battle with the Titans. However now as the Gods seek to reclaim their place on Olympus he sets a trap for Athena in the new campaign booklet.
He is a mighty God as you can see on his Stat Card and his aquatic nature feeds into the theme of this new campaign. There is a LOT of water on these boards and so when the Gods clash they will be doing so aboard boats!
New Heroes & Monsters
As well as the God himself we also have access to some new heroes including the legendary Theseus.
He seems like he has graduated somewhat from his time battling the Minotaur and even carries its broken horn as a talisman.
Antaeus and Andromeda also join the mix. Antaeus was a wrestler who could heal his wounds as long as he touched the ground. He was beaten by Heracles and now seeks a rematch!
Andromeda was an unfortunate beauty whose divine looks angered Poseidon. So, he sent the sea monster Cetus (also included in the set) to ravage the coast.
Thankfully Perseus saved her from the beast and slew it in the rescue attempt. In game she is all about board control and self-sacrifice.
She can harm herself in place of others taking damage and use her chains to tie a unit down and stop it from being incredibly effective. Last but not least we couldn't go without showing off the mighty Scylla who is absolutely huge!
Once a wondrous beauty she was twisted by the sorceress Circe into a terrifying sea monster than now takes to the seas to swallow ships and devour sailors, laughing manically as she does.
Her tentacles allow her to attack many targets at once and she can even use them to defend herself if needed.
You can dive into more detail on this expansion HERE but rest assured it's a fantastic addition to the game.
Will you be getting this?

I went through the KS page for this expansion, it’s just a big old sheet of eye candy!
What really got me though, I love the sea creaturey characters but Theseus, his miniature, the posture and his build, he IS an oldschool hero. He looks like he just leapt off the cover of a pulpy fantasy book from the 70’s or 80’s. He speaks volumes to me! Just the kinda hero I like!
I completely agree, really well sculpted heroes, not overly done but each one look like it has a weight and power behind it. They simply demand to be fully painted and put on the table.
Some of them are hits and others misses.
Honestly, this just keeps getting better and better. After receiving Conan two weeks ago I was completely blown away, but this looks like it will blow me even more (stop tittering Warren). Was gonna invest in a few other Kickstarters live at the minute, but will unfortunately be leaving them now and saving the cash for this one + add ons.
Those are very nice.
Once again BOW have lured me into Kickstarter via the medium of that demo game. Leo is a real star – the Kickstarter live sessions he has done every other night have been fabulous and despite lack of sleep, he is a tremendously enthusiastic and engaging advocate of what is shaping up to be a stunning set of games – yes set, because there is more than one way to play and Poseidon expansion adds yet more.
I too backed Conan… now I need a bigger house
Leo is awesome – very passionate and does his homework
Wow!
I think I made my feelings on this one clear enough in the thread, but suffice to say this expansion knocked the ball so far out of the park it still hasn’t landed yet. Great minis, great new units, new play variant.
11/10.
So no Kraken, but definitely a cracking good set of sea worthy monsters and gods.
I kind of wished the ships weren’t cardboard counters …
Was interested to see what Posiedon would look like. I’m not disappointed.
While it’s visually interesting, I really don’t like the Poseidon sculpt.
I could see him in the more human form, or with a fish/porpoise tail (Though, that is more of a Triton, his son, thing), but the Ursula look isn’t one that fits him from myth or popular culture.
I’m really starting to hope that some of the sculpts will be available for purchase outside of the game itself, mainly because several of them are ones that interest me for Of Gods & Mortals, but Poseidon isn’t one of them…
Wow, Percy Jackson is in for a bit of a surprise when he sees his dad’s new form.
the all look brilliantly great figures.
With this expansion, I finally relented and pledged. Poseidon won me over.
Have you noticed that, in the base box, the minotaur’s horn is broken, and that Theseus is carrying it with him here ? Sure, he doesn’t have the shield and sandals of the original myth (the ones that allowed him to survive an attempted poisoning) but he looks fierce… even if he does remind me more of Thulsa Doom rather than an ancient hero.
I have noticed that :). And welcome aboard!
Welcome aboard Romain. Maybe you’ll be able to give us some nice tutorials for painting them (an awful lot of those minis have shred effects…)
I meant sheer effects, damn phone….
The shinyness is completely dazzling! 😀
This game is really impressive. Im glad I backed it
Scylla is a great multi-base mini and her rules make her a truly formidable opponent. I would love to see Leo play out even one or two turns with her on the Live KS.
