Game For The Glory Of Rome In The Romans
October 11, 2018 by cassn
There was once a dream that was Rome, and now you can live it as you trace the history of this great empire from a small Italian kingdom to a vast Republic.
Battle enemies, build cities, and deploy your armies to expand your influence in this new game from Ragnar Brothers!
In The Romans, players have four senators at the beginning of play, however, this number can increase as more buildings are established throughout the game. By placing Senators in various buildings, players can recruit legions, earn revenue, build cities, fortifications, and fleets, and gain promotions and VP.
Players must also be wary of the roaming hordes of barbarians that attempt to dismantle the glory of the Roman empire. Senators can also be turned into generals, and lead your armies to victory on the map, expanding your empire and the will of the Republic.
This is a vast strategy game and there are multiple opportunities to secure victory points. There is an element of luck in the dice rolling mechanic, however, the dice rolls are shared to mitigate this somewhat. Furthermore, the mechanic also ensures that the competition remains balanced, by providing recovery mechanisms for those who fall behind.
This looks like a really interesting expansion strategy game. Publisher Ragnar Brothers will be launching the Kickstarter later this month, and are hoping to preview the final product at Essen 2018.
This also appears to be the last Ragnar Brothers game which they will be publishing, and from all of us here at OnTabletop, we just want to say a huge thank you to the guys who brought us Backpacks & Blisters, Darien Apocalypse and Nina & Pinta.
Quiz Time! What movie have I stolen a quote from in the first paragraph?
"By placing Senators in various buildings, players can recruit legions, earn revenue, build cities, fortifications, and fleets, and gain promotions and VP!"
