Gale Force Nine Announce Arrakis: Dawn Of The Fremen
March 9, 2022 by brennon
Gale Force Nine has announced another new Dune board game for those who just can't say no to blisteringly hot desert planets. The newest game in the series is Arrakis: Dawn Of The Fremen.
Arrakis: Dawn Of The Fremen // Gale Force Nine
Dawn Of The Fremen is a brutal and cutthroat game that is set long before the events of the Dune novels. During the game, you'll take control of a tribe of Fremen warriors who are battling for control of resources across the desert world.
The focus here is on bargaining, cooperating and then backstabbing and competing when it feels right to do so. Victory in the game is assured by controlling enough of the sietches (communal cave dwellings) at the end of an action phase. It can also end when the "council" or players agree that your victory is assured whatever they do.
Arrakis: Dawn Of The Fremen Set-Up // Gale Force Nine
A turn is broken down into the Harj where you jockey for position. You then have the Initiation Cycle which introduces you to the game and puts restrictions on what you can do in order to get you used to gameplay. Finally, you have the Cycles which continue until one tribe has been determined the winner.
Dawn Of The Fremen sounds like it will be a different experience from your normal Dune game featuring the various warring houses. But it also feels like it's going to be for the right group. Some folks don't like getting backstabbed!
Watch out for this game hitting shelves around June this year.
Does this feel like it could be right up your alley?
