Sorry We Are French (still an amazing company name) are working on bringing a new board game to the tabletop in 2023. In The Footsteps Of Darwin sees you playing as junior naturalists looking to study animals on a fantastic voyage around the world.

The game has been designed by Grégory Grard and Matthieu Verdier whilst featuring artwork by the talented Maud Briand and David Sitbon. Not much is known about it right now but we do have a little breakdown of gameplay.

As mentioned, you will take on the role of a junior naturalist who has joined Charles Darwin on the Beagle and is helping him finish On The Origin Of Species. Play will go around the board over the course of thirty minutes (pretty quick!) where you will be able to perform actions in two steps.

The first of these actions sees you studying animals and taking inspiration from characters. You can take an animal to study and gain scoring bonuses based on the tile's placement within your play area. You might also get bonuses from characters on the Beagle itself.

Secondly, you can voyage on the Beagle where you move the ship forward covering the distance between where the ship started and the tile you just took. This pushes on the game and provides you with an interesting way to manipulate the "market" it seems.

Quite simply, you'll want to pick up the right animals and inspiration throughout your journey to score the most points and be the best contributor to On The Origin Of Species.

The game seems fairly simple (with an 8+ rating for age) and with a playtime of thirty minutes, I am intrigued to see how the puzzle plays out for this one. Any game with tile placement already grabs my attention!

Will you be watching out for this?
