Flick Your Fleet In Star Trek: Conflick In The Neutral Zone
November 6, 2018 by cassn
An incursion into the Romulan Neutral Zone is considered an act of hostility by all parties. However, along the one light year area buffer, there have been sightings of resource-rich planets, and now both the Klingon Empire and the Federation are out to profit from their existence.
Star Trek: Conflick in the Neutral Zone is a disk-flicking game based within the Star Trek universe. Players must flick their ships to gather energy resources and earn command points. This is achieved by bringing a ship into range of energy or command planets on the board. Fleets can be expanded by buying more ships during a players turn, allowing more opportunity to score points.
Players can also attack other ships in their galaxy by launching their attack ship into an opponents ship. Their ship is destroyed by flicking it off the board. However, opposing players can also hide their ships behind asteroids, successfully preventing attacks.
The game is over when a player reaches ten command points, successfully claiming the territory and mining precious resources.
As a Star Trek fan, I have to say I'm underwhelmed by this offering. This feels like another game which hastily has an IP slapped on top of a basic mechanic, rather than a thought-out, well-integrated game which would appeal to Trekkies. However, @ludicryan says the tension associated with the Neutral Zone is exactly what draws him towards this game, so I guess it depends on the fan.
Star Trek: Conflick in the Neutral Zone will be released by WizKids in early 2019.
Until then, you can keep up to date on their website.

Wait, why are the Klingons going after planets in the *Romulan* Neutral Zone? That’d be like the U.K. marching troops along the French-German boarder. ? Wouldn’t they be better served going after their own buffer with the Romulans? And going by the artwork this is going to be set when the Klingons and Federation are allies, so why are they fighting? In fact put like that, considering the Federation entering the Zone is a major treaty violation it’d make most sense if the Klingons went into the Zone while the Feds went into the one between the Klingons and Romulans… Read more »
