Fire And Swords Expands Ares’ War Of The Ring: The Card Game

War Of The Ring: The Card Game from Ares Games is getting another expansion this year. Ian Brody's card-based take on the epic War Of The Ring will be playable by up to six players and you'll be able to add in new content for all existing player counts too.
Fire And Swords // War Of The Ring: The Card Game
As well as offering new mechanics for six players at the table, you'll also find sixty faction cards, nine new paths, nine new battlegrounds and thirteen skirmishes. Skirmishes are a new type of battleground that represent the smaller settlements and fortifications from Middle-earth. Some examples include the Fordes Of Isen and Bree.
Lotho Sackville-Baggins // War Of The Ring: The Card Game
Three new factions are also getting added to the game with the Northmen for the Free Peoples and then the Easterlings and the Ruffians for the Shadow. That means that we're likely to see more of the conflicts that brewed up around the War Of The Ring near Erebor and perhaps even the Scouring Of The Shire!

A bunch of new art also showed up for the game by the talented Andrea Piparo. It all looks gorgeous but I would expect nothing less! Piparo has done some amazing work on War Of The Ring in the past and other games like Magic: The Gathering.
Orc Chieftain Of Moria // War Of The Ring: The Card Game
Even if you're not planning to play War Of The Ring: The Card Game with six players, I could see Fire And Swords being a good purchase to build on what's available for your regular group or perhaps the basic two-player scenarios. It also looks like a collector's dream when it comes to the artwork!
Will you be scooping this up later this year?

Card games… they will never catch on!
Only if they connect to minis games and RPGs. L5R was a prime example for that.
