FFG Preview Exploration In Discover: Lands Unknown
September 5, 2018 by brennon
Fantasy Flight Games has started to preview more of the mechanics behind Discover: Lands Unknown. Whilst they have tried to keep a lot of this spoiler free, they have said that if you want to know nothing going in STOP READING NOW.
One of the key aspects behind Discover: Lands Unknown is that you have ended up in the middle of nowhere, either cold mountains, sweltering deserts or resource-starved islands. You have to find a way home and that means wandering away from your campsite.
Each game of Discover will feature your characters venturing out to complete a number of different scenarios but this is going to cost you as you head out into the unknown. Everything costs stamina to do, be that revealing new tiles with a scout action, or simply wandering the tiles in search of sustenance.
You will have to decide just how far you're going to push yourself and how far from the campfire you're going to go. If you find yourself out in the wilderness you might end up facing dire circumstances.
As the night closes in you'll have to feed yourself, get a chance to regain stamina and if you ventured far from the fire...face a threat card which could end with your character being in even more danger.
The game really does feature some stunning looking components from what we've seen so far. I love the art style on the character cards and the motif of maps and charts across things like the dials. It's neat that you get little thematic meeples in the game too!
Whilst the key foundation of rules behind the game will always be the same for Discover: Lands Unknown, your actual adventure will always be different from your friends. I can't wait to find out more about this.
Will you be checking this out?

Will have a look at this at Essen Spiel.
On average when we have a game day I am lucky if 4 to 6 people show up. Then there are times when everyone seems free and we get 8, 10 and even 12 people. It would be cool to hand everyone a copy of the game and while we are all playing the same game everyone will have a different experience. Will be interesting to hear the after game discussion when this happens.
It does look interesting.
I really want to play this and test out more of this “Unique Game” design they’re trying.
