Fantasy Flight Studio Talk About Cadwallon: City of Thieves
September 4, 2010 by lloyd
I just spotted this coming out of Fantasy Flight Studio. Although it’s not a wargaming it does look like it might be a cracking board game so I’m sure one or two of our viewers might be interested.
In this video the guys from FFS give you a fairly good overview of what Cadwallon: City of Thieves is and how it looks and as per usual from FFS it looks like a gorgeous product, I love the artwork they have and the minis look ok. Also I have to say it they make damn nice videos too 😉
Here’s a brief I grabbed from their site:
“Cadwallon: City of Thieves is a fast-paced game of cunning thievery and ruthless skullduggery in a fantasy city steeped in magic and intrigue. Two to four players each control their own gang of four thieves, competing to amass the greatest haul of loot from the many carefully locked chests scattered about the board. This is no friendly competition, however, and there is little loyalty among thieves in Cadwallon! The most successful players are as likely to claim their loot from the other gangs as they are to do the time-consuming legwork themselves. And always there is the Guild, directing the gangs from the shadows, and offering rich rewards to those who follow its will. But there is little time to waste; even the slow-witted militiamen will eventually raise the alarm... and woe be upon any thief who fails to creep away before the lawmen seal the district!”

Looks really awesome! I love Rackhams style and I´m really interested in the thief gameplay 🙂
If they revitalise the Rackham metal miniature line, I’ll be more than happy! 🙂
The game looks a bit average, but the minis were fantastic… they don’t deserve to be chucked on the scrapheap of history… that’s reserved for D&D prepaints!
Wow! this looks great! I think I’ll buy this. The idea of playing a gang and rivalry between the gangs is just awesome. And the figs look really cool aswell. Another painting opprtunity. 😀
Although I don’t know too much about this game, I do have to say that every single product I have purchased from Fantasy Flight Games has been of the highest quality. The materials and minis are great, and the rules are usually posted online for free, so you know what you’re getting before you buy.
It looks like an enjoyable enough board game, for what it is, but it seems like something which I would more likely buy my 13 year old nephew than for myself.
I’m not knocking it though; there is a place for simpler, more casual board games as an alternative to the giant, in-depth, time-consuming world of tabletop wargaming and Cadwallon may well be a fine game for such needs (I’d probably enjoy it if I played it).
The figures do look good for painting as well, although I couldn’t justify buying it for that alone.
It does seem much closer to a “beer and pretzel” have a few friends over and don’t play too seriously game. As you say games like this certainly have their place and are just as important to gaming as games with months long in depth campaign systems.
I does sound like a very interesting game. The focus on looting, stealing and keeping your gains rather than actually attacking to kill your enemies is rather refreshing (I know this isn’t the only such game but they are rather rare).
Also the price is well within acceptable boardgame realms, certainly for a boardgame that comes with rather nice playing pieces rather than just cards or simple pieces.
All in all I’m very tempted.
the map at the start looks like austrailia but upside down :S kinda makes sence how murders and thefs where sent to austraila 🙂
i like most of the boardgames which fantasy flight puts out. This will be another nice addition to my collection of boardgames.:)
thanks for posting this! it looks fun to play and their miniatures have potential! Im sure with a little clean up of the casting lines and some well applied paint, they’d look great!
Looks like a fun game
If I can get my friends interested, I’ll be getting it.
This game looks very interesting, I think I may just have to pick it up!
Looks interesting.I will most likely add it my collection of games.
I have to say this looks very interesting. Play a number of RPG games so these looks like it could be a great deal. $60 most proberly something like $100 for me being down under after conversion and postage. But still. Here is the thing you get a game plus 20 models for that cost. if the models are just $2 each which is my opinion is a complete lie look at them there GREAT for a board game and then you’d only be paying $20 for the game if you look at it that way. Anyway I am going… Read more »
Looks like fun, as long as the rules are not too complicated. It would be nice to see BOW do a review.
