Explore The Galaxy In New Frontiers
November 16, 2018 by cassn
New Frontiers is a new standalone board game in the Race for the Galaxy series. Players aim to build their galactic empire by selecting, on their turn, an action which all players must complete, however, the deciding player is the only one to receive that action's bonus. Players must find new worlds, build settlements and create developments to expand their presence in the universe.
Players can explore to find new worlds. These new worlds have special powers and, unlike in the original Race for the Galaxy, in New Frontiers worlds will require colonists, payments and/or conquests before they can be settled.
Furthermore, some worlds are "windfall" worlds which allow a player to gain goods as soon as they are settled on, while other "production" worlds will require actions to be taken before resources can be collected. Resources can be traded or consumed to achieve victory points.
New Frontiers has four diverse ending conditions, and once one of these has been reached, players total up their victory points from worlds which have been settled, developments used, development bonuses, and consumed goods to determine the winner.
Fans of the Race for the Galaxy series will be glad to see a new addition to the franchise, and by making it a standalone game, Rio Grande is encouraging new players to get into the game. The release date for New Frontiers is listed as November 2018, so keep an eye on your local store or on the Rio Grande website for further information.

May turn out to be a good empire building game.
I have Race and Roll and all the expansions. I also play the digital game. It is one of most played games. This looks like fun and cannot wait to see a demo.
