Exclusive! Deadzone Hard Plastic Veer-Myn On The Way!
March 4, 2015 by brennon
Mantic Games have sent us a gribbly package of images showing off the upcoming Veer-Myn Hard Plastic Miniatures that will feature as part of the next Deadzone Kickstarter alongside the Pathfinders we've already seen!
These little critters are looking pretty cool and it looks like they've updated some of their armour and armaments since the last time they popped up as part of Project Pandora and the like. As with the Pathfinders this is going to be a multi-part hard plastic kit so you'll be able to play around with how your Veer-Myn actually look and give them your weapons of choice.
Above are also some of the original concepts for the Veer-Myn that you might not have seen before! This should give you a clue as to some of the other weapon options these rat-folk will be bringing to the table and I think they could prove a pretty popular option when the Kickstarter launches.
What do you make of some new plastic Veer-Myn popping up on your tabletop?

I wish they would launch the kickstarter already so I can start throwing money at my screen.
Defo want some of these wee Veer-Myn!! 😀 need to make them cheap-costing in terms of points so you can play them as mass cannot-fodder… like 10 man enforcers face 25+ veer-Myn on the table… now that would be fun… hand me them frag grenades please, it should be fun 😀
10 man enforcer squad? That’s barely possible in a code 13 and you wouldn’t get any of the fun stuff. Surely you would want a fusion gun to set about a horde of rats?
They’re near-blind space rats. They ought to be cheap enough 😉
someone fetch me a pied piper, then we should be able to pick them up for a song ^^
Space rats; what’s not to love (I honestly don’t understand why this hasn’t happened with 40k yet; aren’t Skaven relatively popular in Fantasy?).
That said, while I like the concept art, something seems to get lost in the renders that I can’t quite put my finger on (I think this is the case with a lot of Mantic’s stuff).
The rendered space rats seem to be a bit more chunky / well built vs the art? The art makes them seem a bit more vicious? I don’t quite know.
it’s an unfortunate result of using CAD, Ronnie himself said it in a interview a long time ago, CAD design “cleans and sanitises” a lot of detail off miniatures, it’s the nature of the process to make something that is able to be molded. Hand sculpting and casting in metal or restic will get you closer to the design, but then the casting is slower and the results (in restic at least) don’t have the same level of consistency in quality. So we reach the trade off, if we want cheap, easy to assemble minis it’s hard plastic with less… Read more »
The renders model have huge bulging muscle compared to art. That’s where the difference is. They look like mma brawlers in the render ^^
I have no more room in this house and a mountain of Deadzone already. I think I will give this one a miss and pick up anything later in retail when I have cleared out the last of the 40K and other unwanted items.
Those rats are cooooooool!
I recently picked up some skaven as my next fantasy project. Though I’m not much of a fan of Mantic’s miniatures, this concept art does send a tingle down my spine.
I loved the demo video and rules for Deadzone, but when I got my box of rebels I really hated working with the hard plastic.
the rebs aren’t hard plastic, so you shouldn’t have those problems with the Veermyn
@wrinklestiltskin the rebs are made in “restic” , not the HIPS “hard plastic” that the zombies, new enforcers and new forge squats (and the vermen) are to be made in here. It takes some getting used too, For my part I think restic has a undeservedly bad rep. The biggest problem is you need to slice mould lines off, you cannot just scrape them off. you simply need to treat it differently. I find I prefer restic to metal which would be the alternative for those minis. as long as they are cast properly (like the dreadball xtreme minis) and… Read more »
Hopefully the Kickstarter will show pics of the minis, not just renders.
Doubtfull, they need the KS cash to pay for producing the moulds… maybe some 3D prints?
Deadzone was easily my favorite game of 2014. I’ll definitely be backing this one as well.
Got to agree. Deadzone is a great game that I love playing and collecting. I’ve got four strike teams already and I’m planning an Asterian and Rebs purchase too. 🙂
Those are reallly cool… still waiting for the pledge manager for KoW, but I´m pledging for this as well. I am that weak 🙂
Where is the full-color picture featured in the preview bar under the story on the main page? Everything here is a render or a black & white sketch.
Those are the current models for scourgers, the new ones are still renders. You can check them at Mantic website: http://www.manticgames.com/mantic-shop/warpath/veer-myn/product/veer-myn-scourger-team-5-figures.html
I don’t mind that they have space Skaven in the game it just that I wished that they didn’t make it so obvious its space Skaven. Yes, space rats leads to very few directions people look to. Clean and not crazy Space Rats just CAN”T happen… Could they at least tried to make them not look like Space Skaven?
Over all they look like nice models for a Skaven army.
That sure looks promising.
I love the Veer-myn, they hold a special place in my heart being the first Dreadball team I bought. I always said to myself that as soon as Veer-myn were playable in Deadzone, they’d have me on the hook. And the models look amazing to boot!
na… not for me. Space rat… just don’t work.
Love Veer-Myn just have never got on with Restic so very happy about this.
Is it just me who thinks of Captain Planet every time I see theses.
Love all the different ‘muzzle’ options for these guys. Awesome stuff Mantic, keep it coming in the final renders. 🙂
With the right paint job these would fit nicely into a WHFB skaven army. Just do it up as brass or have some warpstone glow! I wonder how bulky they will be….
so good
While I can’t say I’m a fan of Deadzone’s rules or that restic appeals to me hugely (Its more the huge amount miscasts/flaws over mould lines unless on faces that I dislike) I am willing to put money down for more hard plastic models and scenery so I will back this if I can easily avoid paying for elements I’m not interested in.
Yes, please bring on the Kickstarter!
