Essen SPIEL 2020 Cancelled & Returning In 2021
May 18, 2020 by brennon
It's probably no surprise to anyone but Essen SPIEL 2020 has today been cancelled and moved back to 14th-17th October 2021.
Essen SPIEL @ OnTableTop
This obviously comes off the back of the current world situation and the potential for travel and mass gatherings to be controlled and regulated until into next year. Whilst this is obviously unfortunate news as SPIEL is one of the best conventions out there, it makes sense.
The team have mentioned that they are all booked in for next year in 2021 so I hope we get to see tabletop gamers descending on Essen in the thousands once more.
Have you been to Essen SPIEL?

yes I have…. years ago…. was very crowded and when I hear it’s worse now…. yeah, don’t need that. But it’s a shame that all these events are not happening this year.
Essen SPIEL has been one of the better convention I’ve been too for crowds I’ve felt, much like UKGE. They tend to have got the flow of the crowd a bit better over the years (when I’ve been there anyway).
Lots of fun demos to play and new stuff released at SPIEL which is always fun.
I just hope 2021 won’t explode then when everybody with “convention withdrawal symptoms” rushes there. Next year my daughter turns 10 and it would be a nice holiday for the family.
Brilliant idea! The perfect outing for my two-year-old son by then. Catch them while they’re young, right?
Using your daughters 10th birthday as a reason to bring home lots of games…. i like it sir 🙂
We see what you’re doing ” family holiday “…
I believe that I will need to send some more minis to Germany if your mini-monster is going to begin the path of growing up geek.
Shame I don’t think this will be the last one.
Hopefully it is but.
