Eric Lang & Adrian Smith Team Up For Rising Sun Board Game
August 9, 2016 by brennon
Board game maestro Eric Lang and artist Adrian Smith have teamed up once again for the spiritual successor to Blood Rage called Rising Sun, a game set amidst the mysticism of Ancient Japan.
CoolMiniOrNot will be taking the reigns on this one again as well as Guillotine Games and Studio McVey. Here you'll be battling it out in a test of of wills duelling with honour, negotiation and warfare in feudal Japan. It also comes with epic miniatures.
This games heritage lies in the likes of Diplomacy, a stalwart of a game from 1959. This saw you wrestling for control of Europe before World War I. Similar mechanics are going to be present here but with the typical Eric Lang twist to make it more modern and exciting to play.
You can take a closer look at the models here showing off just what you can expect. Of course these are the prototypes but when you've seen the quality of the sculpts in Blood Rage you will be chomping at the bit.
As you can see there is a definite mix of the Historical and the Fantastical in here. Eric Lang explained that the Gods have returned and they are unhappy with how they find the world. Therefore you will be fighting for one of these Gods to reshape the world in their image.
You should be looking for this game to come to Kickstarter next year and we would assume it will come with all manner of exciting extras since CoolMiniOrNot are at the helm.
Will you be looking out for this one?

The minis look gorgeous and I’m a big fan of Adrian Smith. The sticking point for me will be whether or not this can be played solo. I’m still looking for that perfect solo gaming experience.
I wanna see the line troops! If there are good samurai and ninjas ok otherwise the heroes are a bit out of my taste
The resins are gorgeous, which is to be expected when you contract the finest sculptors in the world. It’s a shame that by the time we get them they’ll be in lower quality plastic. Blood Rage is an excellent game so I have high hopes for this one too.
This tends to be the problem I have with any KS CMON produces… TBH, I’d rather see higher production quality games produced independently, or at least tackled by CMON using a different platform/strategy… Charge more for the game, but actually make the thing nice… As it stands, I’ve sworn off CMON KS campaigns until they can at least get that sorted. It’s just not worth getting excited at the potential miniatures they can make, only to be repeatedly and dramatically disappointed in what ends up arriving.
I know what you feel. I’m not a fan of high quality miniature masters that end up punching out low quality casts.
Love Eric Lang games, will definitely be backing this one.
That’s totally up my alley so I’ll keep an eye on this!!
yes to this, but thanks for the heads up about final quality of previous minis.
I will be watching though in the hope they pull it off because it looks great.
