In the summer of 2018, Scythe creator Jamey Stegmaier asked fans to design new events to be added into the 1920s alt-historical board game.  Now he has selected his favourites and compiled them into a new encounter deck.

Scythe Encounters is a new set of 32 encounter cards to add to the base game.  Encounter cards are multiple choice cards players can collect by exploring which provide special, one-time bonuses.  This new deck is designed to be incorporated into the original deck, however, Stegmaier has recommended that players use the deck separately for the first few playthroughs, as these new cards provide “a number of innovations in the encounter system”.

I got to play Scythe recently and I just absolutely love it. It's great fun, there are tons of strategic options which allows for vast dynamic gameplay, and the character selection mechanic prevents one-tricking which can be a real problem. Also, my character had a bison, and that's always going to be fun.

Scythe Encounters sadly won't be previewing at Essen, but will be released worldwide on December 7th for the bargain price of $20 (£15), and would make an excellent Christmas present for an OnTabletop news journalist who likes sci-fi strategy games and bison. Just saying.
