Elites For Kill Team & Kal Jerico’s Return Announced At GAMA
March 11, 2019 by brennon
Games Workshop has shown off the first of their announcements at GAMA this week. The first is that we're now going to be seeing Elites dropping into Kill Team.
This new addition to the rules throws some special operatives into the mix for your games. Terminators, Crisis Battlesuits, Striking Scorpions. Adeptus Custodes, every faction is going to be getting an additional bit of a buff with the inclusion of Elites into the mix.
Now, I think regular readers will probably already know my thoughts on this. Kill Team, for me at least, has always been about the little guy, the average joe, getting stuck into ragtag missions. Commanders, Elites and the like joining the fray (for me at least) feels like it runs against the spirit of the game.
Obviously, this is great news for lots of people playing the game and I do hope you enjoy what this offers to the play experience. Maybe I'm just being a stick in the mud but it's an interesting direction for the game to be taking. Is it a case of 'this is cool' or is it 'we need to keep them buying things'?
At any rate, two new boxed Kill Teams are also on the way with Elite options. Check them out...
Here we have Toofrippa's Krew and The Fractal blades. Each of these will no doubt come with all the bells and whistles you'd expect from a Kill Team squad but with some added flavour to boot.
More is on the horizon for Kill Team so watch this space.
Kal Jerico Returns
The man, the myth, the legend, the gunslinger, the sly vagabond...ok, we'll stop that now. Kal Jerico is coming to join the world of Necromunda with a sterling new miniature.
Kal Jerico will be introduced into the mix alongside Scabbs, ready to get embroiled in all of the seedy goings-on within the Underhive. Kal Jerico is actually one of the reasons why I got interested in Warhammer 40,000 in the first place. I saw some of his artwork and the old miniature and was immediately won over by this cool looking gunslinger.
Alas, I never had the original model but I might find a place for the new Kal Jerico on my painting table.
Pint-Sized Players
Adding to the Blood Bowl fun, the Halflings are joining the fray.
This new set of miniatures is coming out alongside a bunch of additional Halfling options and accessories and I love them already. Halflings are, without a shadow of a doubt, the WORST team in Blood Bowl but they do create some funny moments during play. I can't wait to see their Treemen.
Also, a special thumbs up to the little woodland critters included with this set. The squirrel pitching a nut at someone is amazing.
What do you make of these new GAMA announcements?

I will probably never play halflings but! Those are some wonderful characters, simply lovely miniatures. They will need to join the painting queue asap, great to see the sense of fun still coming through from GW.
Awesome releases all round. Those Halfling sculpts are amazing. GW nailed the character of the team.
Kal Jericho eh? Now that’s blast from the past. That Halfling team looks really nice.
You had me at “halfling with a squirrel on his head”.
What about the one with a ferret (which someone over on the Mordheim FB group has dubbed ‘Phil the Phallic Ferret) down his trousers? ?
Ha! My grandad kept ferrets – in line with North West stereotypes. Contrary to North West stereotypes he didn’t keep them down his trousers. I’d never let one of them near my trousers, bitey little buggers.
I’ll have to get this team though won’t I?
As long as you promise not to put any halflings down your trousers. ?
Jerico looks amazing! Elites looks decent and Yay! Halflings!
Does @dracs play BB? If not, he does now. ?
Never played killteam but love the terrain in the boxes.
Halflings are not the worst team. Snotlings, now they are the worst team
Orks Orks Orks Orks Orks Orks Orks Orks Orks Orks …. *humms*
*Waaaaaagh!!!*
Ah good, another expansion for Kill Team – feeling like the worst of vidya gaming at this point – DLC, microtransactions, and so much within the span of a year – look out for the next expansions “Fast Attack”, “Heavy Support” and “Lords of War” before the inevitable pamphlet sized “Just play 40k, mate”. Anyway, halflings are some lovely sculpts – I so want this sculptor to do a new Lumpin Croops Fighting Cocks – in fact, a good way for GW to tackle the “Free people” finally could well be to do a “Dogs of War” and get those… Read more »
I love everything about this new Halfling team, we need to see the Treeman now
“Is it a case of ‘this is cool’ or is it ‘we need to keep them buying things’?”
GW is a stock-based company, they’re working for their true customers – the shareholders. Plus they’re now working with one of the most notorious content splitting companies out there, Wizkids Games. Wouldn’t surprise me if we eventually see blindbag buys……. 😉
a second Ork kill team ?
hmmm …
I do hope the Eldar get a proper killteam as a boxed set.
Maybe even one with a commander and a few elites ?
Gives us some new sculpts please.
I think Killteam can be both ‘the dirty dozen’ (unconventional, ordinary warriors going above and beyond the call of duty) as well as the elite strike team (just doing their job) or the commander and his bodyguards.
It definitely runs the risk of turning into 40k if they keep adding unit types though.
