An Elder & Many Foes Previewed For HEL: The Last Saga
May 8, 2020 by brennon
Mythic Games are continuing their teasers for HEL: The Last Saga with an introduction to more of the characters you'll be playing as and the deadly foes that dwell in the darkness of the island. We start with a venerable warrior, Norr The Elder.
Be Notified Of Kickstarter Launch
Norr has seen much of the world and many consider that it may be the reason that he has now lost his sight. Nevertheless, he now follows the others on their expedition. Perhaps he is searching for a noble death in battle allowing him access to Valhalla, or does something else guide his hand?
The Treetop Ones
Norr may indeed see battle on the island when he comes to face The Treetop Ones. We have seen a few of them already but this week saw us getting a better look at more of their kin.
Enemies in HEL: The Last Saga are seen as blips (like Space Hulk) on the map and they can do terrible damage to you if they catch you unawares. However, when discovered, they become these creatures that you see here who have access to all manner of different skills.
Each of these creatures will also behave differently, controlled by the game's inbuilt AI. This means that a Scarecrow will move and act differently from the likes of the Pest up above. There is a nice mix of something wild and strange within their design whilst also being somewhat familiar to men and women. Perhaps they have suffered so much at the hands of the island that they have turned on those who now step on its shores?
We are fascinated by the way this game plays and what secrets it has to show us when the game eventually releases. This is just a snippet of what's coming since one of the core elements of HEL: The Last Saga is the mystery and finding things out for yourself.
What do you make of the creatures we've seen so far?

They really needed to go on the Weekender with you guys and talk about the gameplay a month or two out from release. Unless I missed it (and it ain’t my job to find it) I haven’t seen anything about the game that’d really get me hyped about it. The models are nice looking, but nothing I’m attached to, and I’ve got a room full of minis like Scrooge McDuck’s gold coins.
Beasts of war has been doing articles on the game for the last week or more. With directs to articles dealing with very specific information on gameplay and what to expect from the game besides just the miniatures.
Besides, the KS will generate its own hype. Im also sure once the kickstarter is running, there will be more coverage as well.

they look a fabulous tribal faction.
So will this the entire game be “Kickstarter Exclusive”.
When you click on the link to be notified when the kickstarter launchers, its pretty clear that it says “kickstarter exclusive”. So to my mind, that means no retail chances for this game down the line.
Perhaps because of the more “hellish” nature of the background they don’t see a retail release doing well?
Or because it is a big box with associated price tag …
There are precious few ‘big’ games for sale in retail for obvious reasons (storage space vs margin).
Kickstarter is sort of the ideal outlet for games with limited appeal.
It also saves them having to build and maintain a webshop …
More lovely creepy stuff
Do your due diligence and check the KS and BGG comments about their previous games. I’m not seeing anything blanketwide (cf. CMON’s audit), but noticed miscellaneous complaints about their various fulfilled and unfulfilled games.
