Eggert Spiele Announce New Camel Up Edition
September 21, 2018 by cassn
Funny story, a man once tried to pay two camels for my sister. I, of course, told him no. And that, my friend, is why I now own three camels.
I joke obviously. No one would pay three camels for my sister (and you probably shouldn't sell your siblings). However, had he tried to swap her for a copy of the long out-of-print Spiel des Jahres winner Camel Up, my gaming brain may have considered the trade.
Thankfully for my sister, Eggert Spiele have announced a new, improved version of Camel Up. The new edition includes rogue camels - racers that, in their confusion, have run the wrong way around the track. It's okay Humphrey - Monday's are hard.
However, the biggest change in the new version is the addition of a new Pyramid Dice Roller to direct your camel's movements, which sits proudly in the center of the board.
I've been wanting to get my hands on a copy of Camel Up for a long time so I'm glad to see this new version being released at Essen this year. Now just to find out if Eggert Spiele will accept sisters as currency.

Any pictures of the dice pyramid.
Surely it’s Camel Cup. In the original game the C is larger and both ‘amel, and ‘up’ come off from it.
It’s a fun game that is best played with a full compliment of players. I’m not sure there is enough new stuff in this version to make me replace my old version though.
Definitely Camel Up.

Liars the lot of them…will always call it Camel Cup 😉
Camel Up is a fun filler game, but the addition of the “pyramid dice roller” sounds like a way to jack up the price of the game by adding something that doesn’t impact the game play at all. Rogue Camel could be good, but almost certainly not worth re-buying the game for.
The pyramid is not new…it was in the first edition too….just as cardboard with a rubber mechanism. Now its more stable and the mechanism more sophisticated. Not sure it was “necessary”…but it looks to be more comfortable now.
I think it was intentional on the first printing that you could read it as cup and up. The cup fits the race theme…and the up the fact that the camels jump on top of each other…so its kinda both.
Great family game, not sure the new additions warrant me picking up the new edition
I just want to see the new rules. The card board pyramid from the first game did not hold up. I ended up 3D printing one someone had placed on thingiverse.
Camel Up is a great game, had a lot of fun with it.
