New Dwarf Team, Pitches & More Added To The Blood Bowl Collection
January 28, 2017 by brennon
The folks at Games Workshop has put together some new Blood Bowl goodies for folks to get stuck into. Leading the way is their new Dwarf Giants team with some fantastic models...
Not only do you get some Dwarfs, which actually look like they're in motion (which is a feat in of itself), storming towards the enemy team. You also get some neat extras including a trophy, balls and a coin to match your team.
I really like the look of the Slayers and the different designs for the Dwarfs in their armour. Each of them feels like they have a good personality.
Pitch Perfect
When it comes to running this team you might want to pick out a pitch. A new double-sided board folds out alongside themed dug-outs to give you options for playing as Dwarfs or Skaven.
Of course, this means that you have to try and work in some ways to get some special rules onto the tabletop for each of these pitches. Hitting the hard stone of a Dwarf pitch would certainly cause some injuries.
Conversely, maybe you'll also be able to work in some mutations when it comes to the Skaven pitch. I think of the two of them the Skaven more is decidedly more evocative even if the Dwarf pitch is in keeping with their character.
Last but not least you also have a set of Special Play Cards known as the Hall Of Fame Pack.
You will get your hands on some cards for Heroic Feats which might turn the tide of a game. The same goes for the Magical Memorabilia which you may be able to get into play. You will roll a the beginning of the game to see how many cards you get to play around with.
It's always fun to make things more random!

Love it, my favourite BB team and they look awesome.
Will grab all the extras too.
Managed to grab the cards, dice and pitch. Dice sold out on GW in 20 minutes.
BB needs more official teams so these dwarves are welcome addition.
I like the armour, even the dynamic look of most of these guys… but!
Firstly, what are those Slayers doing?? Jumping? Are they flying? Unless your a Gyrocopter pilot a dwarf should have his feet firmly planted on the ground!
Secondly, you! Number 3! Are you dancing?? Maybe (probably) it’s the angle of the pic, but the guy at the front right of the photo looks entirely too much he’s bustin’ a move… unless he just scored a touchdown. Then I’ll allow it.
😛
White Dwarfs can’t jump…?
Tell me somebody got that reference…
I got that reference . Happy ?? 🙂
Yes, yes I am! 😉
I’ve decided to strip and re-paint my 30 year old metal Elf and Dwarf teams would I be right in saying that they are going to be out of scale with the new plastics? I’ve not picked up the new game yet, but it’s on the list for this year.
From what I have understood new plastics are little bigger than old metals but I doubt it matters unless you use both new ones and old ones in same team.
They will be, but who cares, mixed in a team I could see issues. I am certainly repainting my Orcs as I think the new orcs are rather lacking character. However, have decided to replace my humans.
Just got my boxed version of Blood Bowl, thoroughly impressed with the snap fits and all the components.
Word of warning though, I was told by the staff that GW stores are no longer getting stock in of the boxed game, all their stock is going to independents now.
I really wanna get my teams painted and i know, I KNOW I will end up with all the teams…..
Gotta make a static grass applicator first though, (gonna cannibalise an electric fly swatter)
I find the sculpts pretty interesting the way they are using the beards to show jumping and movement, however I think they should do that by having them angled away to show movement, rather than flat. However other than that they look great the way their armour is plated and so on 😀
The thing I like is it seems you have options for different heads just by looking at the pic above.
The other kits had it that everything in the kit will make your team without the option to choose anything.
Unfortunetly the dice and the pitch were sold out in less than a minute. As a potential customer and someone who is actively trying to find fellow players of the game here in Dublin, I’m a little put off by the fact that if you want these products it’s unlikely you’ll get them unless you go to e-bay and pay even more to get them. On the Blood Bowl community site on Facebook, many people are disappointed by the lack of supply and someone suggested contacting Games-Workshop about it. Even though I have yet to make my Blood Bowl purchases,… Read more »
That’s a relief, I got called out just before they went live and missed the dice and pitch.
I ran into a similar issue with the Skaven release, and they held good on their promise of releasing more (the very next week after they sold out the initial run iirc). I preordered the Dwarf team from my FLGS, but was unaware of the pitch and dice. Though something tells me those will be GW exclusive, meaning store or online only 🙁
They did not make more dice if i’m not mistaken, the snowpitch was also a one time only thing but i really hope the Dwarf/Skaven will be remade because i already have the Skaven team and plan on getting the Dwarf team nevertheless it would be really nice if the dice were a regular item.
I’m glad they went for a more dynamic look for these dwarfs. You can represent toughness and stoicism without looking static and they’ve done a pretty good job.
I can’t wait to get these little guys on the field. Though I agree, free-floating dwarfs riding on their epic beard updrafts seems a little odd. Regardless, I hope they get Duncan to do a series of painting videos on these. Maybe not necessarily the same NMM scheme, but the more traditional TMM and blue paint scheme like the ones on the cover the Death Zone supplement.
Overall, the dwarves are nice but come on: how would those slayers be able to play with such a long beard!
Skill, Dwarvern skill 😉
Pitches look nice, but the figures suffer from a lack of fluid movement.
I have an idea for you guys and girls at BoW what about doing a Blood Bowl League?
My boys!!! I have pre-ordered these and am all over this release like baby poo in a nappy.. Nothing says team marker like a meaty fist holding a tankard of Bugmans.
In other news I notice the “My Dugout” Ap for Blood Bowl has added options for a Savage Orc, and Human Nobility team (with Star players , specialist options and related Match Event options.
Appartently some daemon stuff was also up for pre-order today ………..hardly really a choice, up yours Tzeechy, (I find taunting chaos gods is a strangely cathartic experience, try it you’ll like it)
The repetition of sculpts really stood out to me here. Are those slayers the same body with swapped heads/beards? Seems lazy to only have one pose when there are just two players for that position.
The slayers and the Blitzers are the same model with two different head options. The Bloodbowl teams consist of one sprue repeated twice. It had been the same for all teams so far, with this kit they added extra head options
Stupid Yank question: why is it called a “pitch”?
Because in British English a “field” is something you farm. A “pitch” is a playing field. Eg. Cricket pitch, football pitch
@blaeyn
It probably comes from cricket, which is a sport with a long history, and from there gradually became the common British term for a field of play. Much as you pitch a tent, in cricket you defined the playing area by pitching the stumps. So a field became a pitch for playing cricket on when you pitched the stumps.
Wow.. so the new pitch, which is basically a few pieces of printed cardboard, is $66 AUD down under or about 40 GDP.
Dwarves look nice, like most of new GW Warhammer stuff they remind me of the now defunct Rackham figures.
Is it the shipping that makes stuff so expensive there or is their trade tariffs? The £ is quite low against all major currencies so I can’t imagine why it’s that expensive.
I’m be surprised that, with the popularity of Blood Bowl, Games Workshop wouldn’t be restocking the Pitches. Especially as they are not listed as a Limited Edition release.
The pitch sold out before I could order one, I am beyond dissappointed 🙁
I got the pitch and the cards no dice though 🙁
On the Games-Workshop UK store now, they’ve changed the “sold out” products to a “temporarily sold out” with the “e-mail me” option for when it’s back in stock. This is a good sign GW were listening to their customers and intend to make more of these products. I hope most people wait it out and let the e-bay scalpers make a big loss for once!
Dice sold out within like 5 minutes of being on… I wish I remembered sooner… meh.
