Dungeon Sagas Dwarf King’s Quest Kickstarter Now Live!
August 4, 2014 by brennon
It's time to begin the dungeon delving. Mantic Games' new Kickstarter for Dungeon Sagas: Dwarf King's Quest is now live and you can begin pledging and descending into the dark to thwart the plans of an evil Necromancer!
The game sees you playing as a band of heroes trying to fight their way into an Ancient Dwarf Hold that has been taken over by the malicious and deadly Mortibris. Not only will there be skeletons, zombies, and zombie trolls but also deadly Banshees and even the once proud owner of the Hold to deal with!
As you can see the components are looking pretty outstanding already and the various miniatures are brilliant in my opinion at least. I love all of the heroes and I think some of the undead, especially the one with sword and shield, are amazing! As you can see though they do come in coloured plastic form when you get the box so you don't have to paint them up if you don't want to. It's a nice touch doing them in red like the original HeroQuest box!
It obviously wouldn't be a Mantic Kickstarter without a sweet spot to aim for and that's exactly what they have here with the $100 mark which gets you a whole lot of extras right out of the block. Not bad at all I'd say!

I got up at 6:30 my time to back this and get an early bird, and I’m sure glad I did because that thing just got 100% funded in barely 4 minutes after launch! I guess I’m not the only one who’s excited about dungeon furniture 😉
I’ll keep an eye on this, really need to be able to level up stats, or at the very least be able to buy upgrades, and find them in the dungeons for it to hold any real interest.
The advanced rules will cover leveling up and upgrading characters you make from scratch.
In at the start and got my early bird, now to see where we end up in 27 days 🙂
I was going to wake up a little later but glad I came early. When I got mine there was 115 early birds gone. By the time I processed my pledge they were all gone. Now for the Mantic fun! Can’t wait to see all the stretch goals! Too bad the Bear-Wizard isn’t around for this one though.
Backed! Logged in to Kickstarter at 1:45 BDT and the early pledge levels were already gone. I hope this game gets huge as I would like to see just where it can go as a board game and as a more advanced RPG-esque style game…
I logged in asap. When I entered the site, the backer counter was zero. After I pledged the early bird counter was at 228!!
I jumped on as soon as I woke up this morning and did my pledge. The early birds were all gone. Damn.
My only gripe is that Mantic has held back on miniature count as there is only one pledge level. I expect the value to only improve as the Kickstarter progresses. If I wasn’t a Mantic fan who has been following this project closely I would be hesitant to back @ $100 for 35 miniatures. The strategy will mean greater funding levels toward the end.
We are just killing the pledges! It’s awesome. It met it’s goal in just 4 minutes! We’ve already passed two stretch goals (for awesome minis) in under two hours.
I’m interested in getting in on this as I love a dungeon crawler but can’t say I’m enthused by the number of miniatures. I was expecting something to rival Heroquest or Warhammer Quest but the model count in the starting pledge is shockingly low for $100. Compared to the Gamezone 25th anniversary Heroquest crowdfunding run on Lanzanos it is really terrible value. Let’s hope the stretch goals bump it up a bit.
I am a fan of most mantic’s products. Love dreadball, backed deadzone, but never liked their dwarf king’s hold and this look like more of the same, a 100$ pledge is way too much money for what they offer right now even though they have already thought on increasing the miniatures with the stretch goals… besides I already own Descent 2nd ed, Myth (kickstarter version with tons of miniatures for a similar price), Super Dungeon explorer and backed Heroquest 25th edition There is no room for another dungeon crawler in my collection.
Interested to see what the final package offer will be with all the stretch goals included.
I have no doubt at all, pledgers will receive an awesome deal by the end of the campaign.
And, unlike HeroQuest 25th Anniversary, there’s no threat of litigation fouling things up…
I’m so excited now this has finally gone live. Like many logged in at 1.30pm dead on (goodness knows how working in the middle of a forest at work!) and by the time I’d gone through Amazon all the EB’s were gone. I’m really pleased it’s only a small difference too -though a $5 saving would be nice – especially as it was such a lottery this time!
Roll on the next four weeks – I can’t wait to see where this goes!
Stretch goals are dropping fast…nice 🙂
Sadly for me I cannot afford $100, but I am very happy to see it is doing so well already! I will definitely pick a copy up when it is out. 🙂
Mantic is trying to sell us a game with a box with only 21 miniatures for 100$? Okey that with SG Miniatures will go up, but they are chopping the initial box that Its supposed to be in local store! i forgot exclusive KS minis. No money from me this time . Hope quality of minis is much better than dreadball .
2 years between now and the initial Dreadball stuff, and we can say better quality is pretty much a given. All the bascic set contents is using the stuff they used for Loka figures which seems to be the perfect material for single piece miniatures, guess it must be hard to glue, as they don’t seem to be using it for multi-part stuff though. As for low box contents, well I have faith they’ll make it worth my 50 odd quid investment by the end. 24 hours in and the box contents has near doubled. Even with the inevitable slowdown,… Read more »
Currency convertor shows my $110 dollar pledge translating to 65.28 of my shiny english pounds – probably a better fun investment (for me) than the £75/80 for 40k 7th Ed. and Ork Codex I was thinking of buying /shrug
I’m happy with the way the KS is going (it’s my first and I’m excited lol) especially since the latest stretch goal looks very much like a close version of Felicia Days Codex character from The Guild web series 🙂
… still amazed nobody’s noticed that the guy doing the voice over
at the end of the kickstarter video is the Honest Trailers guy off youtube 😉 ha ha
Sorry if this is a stupid question (I was told that no question is a stupid one). I am a backer. I pledged $130 for the crypt walkers add on. Now I see that if you add on another $25 you get the heroes of dolgarth which brings the total to $155 do I still need to add on another $10 for postage to the uk? Bringing the total pledge to $165?
According to the shipping Info on the kickstarter page, all shipping to the UK and USA is free. It is 10$ for EU.
Reading it all, it seems UK (and US) postage is entirely free, and there’s nothing about add-ons costing more. So I assume it’s all free as it’ll likely just be bundled with your pledge anyway.
I had a Battlefoam case off them as an add-on in a previous Kickstarter (not a small item) and there was no further charge for that.
A slow burner but its Mantic so we shall see where this one goes
So far, i like what i see here. Can’t wait to see how crazy this one gets! Dreadball extreme was totally crazy!
Have they posted the Alpha rules yet? I can’t find them on the kickstarter page.
The great thing about the Deadzone kickstarter was they put up the rules and cut outs so you could try before you pledge.
As much as I want to support this project, I can’t because I find the tiles waay too small. Why wouldn’t they have made them bigger?
